Dog Surgery?

We have a 4 year old lab/dalmation mix that has a torn ACL....she needs surgery..

Has anyone here had experience with this in their dogs?

TPLO surgery? My male shepherd had TPLO. While the outcome was good I'll tell you that was 14 weeks of hell as you pretty much have to restrain the dog from everything except relieving themselves.

Also make sure the vet is qualified in TPLO. It's a complex surgery and I heard horror stories of 1st timers thinking they could do it.

I agree with the pp. My Lab had to have it done last August. It was the worst experience of my life! I had to keep him still for 12 weeks after the surgery. Try doing that with a hyper Lab! We went thru 3 of those elizabethan collars! He would run into my legs with that contraption on. I had bruises all over my legs!

I put him on a strict diet after surgery. I'm hoping I won't ever have to go thru that with the other leg.

Now, 1 year later he is getting along wonderfully! It is so nice to see him frisky again! He will be 8 years old in Feb 2010. It was worth the money!!! I do give him an Osteo3 tablet daily to help his joints. And I got a pet ramp, which is on the back stoop to make it easier for him when he goes outside.
