So, within about half an hour last week we 1) Found out the we were approved to adopt this amazingly awesome dog through a great local rescue. 2) Told DS (who has been very specific that this is the dog he wants) that we would be adopting this dog -- something he's been asking for for years and years and 3) Found out that the house that we're supposed to move into on Thursday is full of mold, which my DS is allergic to. Our current home does not allow pets.

Yes, I know I'm stupid and that we should never have gone to Petco to look at pets until we were moved in. Too late.

So, I went into crazy househunting mold and found another house. It's got everything I promised the rescue people (fenced yard, air conditioning, safe neighborhood etc . . . ) except the fence I described as "3 1/2 feet tall chain link" is now "8 feet tall wooden privacy" and I think I mentioned a basement the dog could spend time in when we're not home -- we no longer have a basement but we have a family room which will work.

We're now moving Wednesday instead of Thursday.

So, do I call the rescue now and reapply for a new house.

Not say anything and when I go pick up the dog at the foster mom's house just write the new address which doesn't match the old one.

Not tell them at all, until they call and check (which I assume they will

They knew we were moving -- they just think we're moving to a different house than we actually are. They waived the homevisit requirement because we were moving.

I think I'm being paranoid -- if they trusted me before they'll trust me now right?

Its not lying but it is deceitful. If they catch on,you may not get the dog and then they will be wary of you in the future. Just tell them the truth. It sounds like your new place will be acceptable for placing the dog with you.

As a "foster Mom" for several rescues, my advice is to just be honest. Call the rescue and tell them that you are so excited to adopt this dog that you found a different house that's even better than before!
Tell them that where the dog will be staying during the day, and about the fenced yard.
They will appreciate your honesty and your family's enthusiasm for the new pet.

As another "foster mom" I totally agree! This new house sounds better than the last. :)

What if I send a new email to both the foster mom and the woman who runs the rescue, maybe attach pictures of the house (it's still on the listing service -- there's a nice picture of the yard) and say -- ooops, this is what happened, here's my new address, here's the landlord's contact if you need to talk to them, and assume I don't need to "reapply". If I don't hear anything then I just go pick up the dog as arranged on Friday and put the new address on the application.

I should add that the actual foster mom is going to be in the hospital on Friday (hence the rush to get me to pick up the dog). She has her daughter coming to stay with the dog and her dog, and so I'm picking up from her. I don't want to just tell her, because she doesn't do rescue so she might not know the protocal.

I can't see a problem here either. The fence is better, and a family room certainly beats a basement. I'd do just what you have stated above! ::yes::

Congratulations! :thumbsup2

I am confused I don't see any problems the yard will still be fenced and it sounds as though you will keep the dog in the family room instead of the basement which is way better! What kind of dog are you adopting? But I
would definately tell them you will be at a different location that still meets all their requirements.

He's either a sheltie mix or a collie mix -- he's got that sheltie/collie face, but his hair is softer and more feathery (more like a golden retriever or a Springer spaniel) and parti-colored (white and almost a buttery tan) although he's got a lot so again more like a collie in that respect. He's 27 lbs which is a little big for a sheltie and a lot small for a collie, so I figure maybe he's a sheltie/golden/something parti colored, or he's a collie/cocker spaniel. He's so cute and sweet!

Thank you for rescuing! Congrats on your new home and latest addition to your family. :yay:

My last 3 dogs were rescues from shelters or foster home. Not once did I even have someone follow up after the adoption. My sister adopted 2 dogs from another rescue. No follow ups there either because if they did I would think they would have removed the dogs. She is not the best housekeeper.
