I have been searching the internet and haven't been able to find any info so I am turning to my DIS friends..
Our dog, a 12 year old Boston Terrier started yelping when he would jump up a few weeks ago and we assumed that he had pulled something as he thinks he is a puppy most of the time and is very active. Then he had an incident last week - he woke up from a nap and kept falling down and acting very strange, he has never done that before. After a little while he was ok. He did fall down a few times during his walk the next day but since then hasn't fallen at all. He had lost his hearing a little, but since that incident he is completly deaf. He seems fine, he still yelps when he jumps up but other than that seems fine. He doesn't limp or anything. Wondering what might have caused the incident and sudden deafness... anyone experienced anything like this or have any ideas? Any help is appreciated.

Perhaps a mild stroke or seizure????

I'd make a vet appointment to see what the trouble is.

I'd take that poor thing to a vet right away.

We are taking him to the vet, hopefully we will get an appt tomorrow- just concerned that since he acts fine now they won't be able to tell us anything. I know him being deaf is not the end of the world but it's so sad that he can't hear us when we talk to him.

Take your doggy to the vet tomorrow. You might try pm'ing or emailing Doc Rafiki before tomorrow though.

It kinda sounds like either an inner ear infection or worse case, as Disney Doll suggests, a stroke. I hope he gets to feeling better soon.

That is really sad. {{{{{{{HUGS}}}}}}}

We were not able to get him into the vet until today as they were booked yesterday. DH took him this morning and she said that they believe he had a stroke or seizure that day and that the hearing may have been affected somewhat by it but more than likely is just a sign of old age and he won't get his hearing back. She also told him the other things we can expect with him aging and it's not anything to look forward to. I'm glad that he seems ok now just more tired than usual and we are hopeful that he won't have any more incidents like last week. Thanks for all the help just wanted to update you.

We had a Boston Terrier when I was growing up. She lost her sight suddenly when she was nine. Around 12 she gradually started going deaf, but lived happily until age 15. At 15 we put her to sleep because she was obviously not happy anymore and in pain.

I hope your Boston adjusts well and stays happy!

Just a word of caution don't take your pets health for granted
Our beloved Boston, Winston, passed away in April at the young age of 9. We was very active much still like a puppy until he passed away.
He laid down to take a nap and never woke up. Always get them checked out just in case and baby him. Hopefully he will live a to a good old age. We would give anything to have him back deaf, blind, or any old way.
