These are not English Bulldogs, and not AKC anything. From the description on the websites I've been to, it seems they've bred English Bulldogs with Mastiffs and American Bulldogs (aren't those pitbulls?), to develop what they call "a healthier" bulldog that is similar to what they believe the bulldogs of the 17th century were. They claim taller, less breeding problems, able to take heat better, more athletic.

I'm also thinking more aggressive, if mixed with pit bulls?

Just curious what you all think, we would like an English bulldog one day, and I just watch the kennels/breeders around, just to see what types (colors) they are breeding and for the cute pictures! We'll likely rescue ours, but in looking around, I came across this "new breed" that I hadn't heard of before.

Oh, and last week I came across some people breeding "miniature bulldogs". Again, not AKC, as they are mixing to do what they want with the dogs..........................

My Sis-in-law has an Olde bulldog. You are right, there are pitbulls in the bloodline. However, I can tell you that this dog and the whole litter it came from do not exhibit any aggressive characteristics. Onyx (SIL's dog) is a wuss. She's tall and when she barks (which is when BIL goads her into it by saying, "Who's outside?") she's loud. But she's very tolerant of my kids and their son...very mild mannered dog.

I'm not a dog person...can't stand them in fact...so I may be seeing an exception to the rule, but there it is with this dog.

All Bulldogs in general are "Gladiators" of the dog world. It is their instinct to guard, protect, and defend to the death. That is who they are.

I think the "healthier part" is referring to breathing problems, hip issues, heart problems and a host of skin problems. They can have alot of medical problems. So if you choose a Bulldog be prepared to have medical bills.

They have a stubborn nature and tendency to be ALPHA in the presence of "weakness". That is just their instinct.

I would not recommend a Bulldog to a family that does not understand "Pack Order and Training". This is vital to owning any Bulldog. They need people and air conditioning, cannot tolerate heat. They will destroy things if left alone.

Yep, we understand bulldogs. I was just curious if anyone knew anything of the temperament of these new mixes. In particular, how fast in comparison to the bulldog they go into defense mode, and how aggressive they are with children. Again, we aren't trying to get one, just wondered about them.

Thanks for the insight, zulaya, does she know others with these, how do theirs compare to hers? How old is her dog? Is it an indoor dog? How old are the kids she's around? How does she do with strange adults? Will she go beyond barking in defense?

I don't know much about the Olde English (I have a regular AKC bulldog, who is the biggest mush in the world!), but I wanted to point out that AMERICAN BULLDOGS are NOT pitbulls.

Well, there are the American Staffordshire Bulldogs, who are not pitbulls, but pitbulls are often called American Pit Bull Dogs (APBDs).............I suppose they could be referring to Staffordshires, but I assumed they were referring to APBDs, being as they would be more readily available. I would think if they meant Staffordshires, they'd've used that term?

I don't really know what they meant, as there is not actually, as far as I know, a breed referred to officially only as "American Bulldog"........they all have more to their name than that.

Are there any other American Bulldogs?

.............there are the Spuds dogs, too, but they are American Bull Terriers...............

My husband did an a lot of research on bulldogs-- since he was interested. American Bulldogs are not pit bulls- they are a breed onto their own.

American Staffordshire terriers are one of the 3 pit bull breeds.
