Just back from a trip to the Fort, while walking my dog one morning I was approached by a manager at Fort Wilderness and he asked me what I thought of a dog park at the Fort.( a place where you can let your dog run free) I told him it sounded good and he told me they already have plans to get one in this summer, with water fountains and obstacle features for the dogs

If this is true, and the pool re-hab goes through, it sounds as though they are considering putting some money back into the campground. Of course, if this ends up being true and the pool slide is not added, there will be some seriously angry people that doggies will get a water feature first!

A year or two ago after staying at FW and utilizing the kennels, I received via email a survey asking about certain improvements which could be made as far as pet accommodations are concerned. I remember a water park for pets being one of the items they were asking about, in addition to photo ops with characters and your pet, so this has been on the drawing board for a while. As with most "attractions," Disney does a lot of research before acting, and most plans end up never coming about. This would be neat if it happens, but I wouldn't be surprised if it doesn't happen, either.

A dog park would be great. My lab gets to run free at home and he is not going to be happy on a leash while we are there next week. I wish it was in now or I should say he wishes it was in now.:sad2:

I think a dog park would be a great idea for EVERYONE. A tired dog is a happy dog. A tired, happy dog is then a quiet, resting, not barking or whining dog. A dog park means people with dogs have a place to go away from people without dogs. It also provides a place to clean up after pets properly.

We happen to be dog people but would not not travel to Disney with our dogs because we have to fly to Orlando. When we have traveled wih our dogs on driving trips, it usually ends up in trouble (one got stung by a bee, another swallowed too much sand at the beach and got sick, one got skunked etc). We miss them terribly when we are away but now spring for a deluxe doggy resort near home where they stay and play all day, and we can watch them on web cam. For the price of it we could probably upgrade to a Deluxe resort, but its worth it to know the pooches are happy. Bu I digress...

I say YES to the dog park! I think everyone would benefit, and some people like us would drop by even without our dogs just because we miss our guys so much while we are away.

The way he made it sound was when I come back next Easter it will be done. He said they would be constructing it soon.

It sounds as if Disney has realized there is demographic left that it hasn't tapped as deeply into as it might have..that is the pockets of pet owners! :thumbsup2 Many campers get into RV'ing or camping lifestyle because we have pets and would like to vacation with them..and aren't going to use their hotels. I'm sure, like anything else..this will mean an increase in rates. However I don't see many dog owners declining to pay a bit more for an area that their dogs can run and socialize in. As mentioned in an earlier post..a tired dog..is a happy dog.;) So is the occupant of the site next to the tired dog..(no barking)..that makes everyone happy!:thumbsup2

I think this answers a question I had, and couldn't find anywhere...pets ARE allowed in your RV/Trailer, but not in the cabins?

Correct, pets are not allowed in the cabins, but are allowed at campsites that are located in pet loops.

This would be a great addition to a great camp ground...just one question. Since pets aren't allowed outside the pet loop and aren't allowed to ride on golf carts, where will it be located and how do you get your dog to it?

LOL! I was wondering the same thing! :rotfl:

It's about time they offered us something for our $5 per night! Never have figured out why my mini Schnauzer should cost so much. However, I would not take her to a dog run. In spite of the fact she has had all her shots, I'd worry about her picking up something from another dog. And she isn't really sociable with other dogs. She would have to be the only one in it.

I was telling my wife about this and our family agrees a new pool with a slide would be a much better way to spend the money at FW LOL.

My thoughts would be that it would somehow be connected by the trails that run behind the campsites in the dog loops, that's the only thing I can think of. That and they would probably place it in a central location and start designate loops around it as pet loops.

Or maybe just a doggie shuttle service...lol

I have to pay that same $5/night to bring my cat, and she never even goes out of the trailer(except in her carrier to/from the truck).

I don't think I'd feel the need to mention I had a cat..that is never seen or taken out of the RV. :rolleyes1

SHHHH! We here at the Dis would never do such a thing:rolleyes:

But that is the pet policy:confused3

Somtimes she is seen as she likes to sit in windows but if your in a pet loop who would even care.

I agree. What if you have a hamster? or a goldfish? What's the difference, if they never leave the RV?
