Dog owners- do you scoop poop in your own yard?

We live on 2 acres and have 2 big dogs. We've trained them to go in the "wild" part of our property (tall prairie grass) that divides our property from a hiking/biking trail. In the past, with our old dog (who has since passed away,) who went wherever he pleased, we would scoop every few days and always before we mowed. I can't understand why anyone would just want to let it sit for an extended period of time. It stinks and attracts flies!

People really leave poop in the yard, even in a back corner? Ewww

My husband picks up the poop every day. Not me, because I don't do poop. Plus, I barely tolerate the dog and he knows that so the less I have to do, the better.

I have hired someone to pick up the poop once a week. I have three big dogs so I am glad to have someone else do it.

I smell a spinoff thread coming!!! Do you pick up your own dog poop, or do you pay someone to do it??? :rotfl:

Please know that I am just teasing you Theresa Pitman. I know how much crap my 15 and 17 pound dogs can generate in a week. I can just imagine the amount that three big dogs would leave!

OP, we scoop our poop twice a week and we have an eight foot high privacy fence. The reason why we scoop it, because it does smell in the summer. Like something died to be exact.

We have one large dog, one small. We pick up immediately after. I don't want to risk stepping in it.

We have a small kennel area outside our cellar door where our little guy "goes". We clean it and spray it down with cleanser regularly (except in the winter). If he happens to go in the main yard, we pick it up.

With our German Shepherds, we had a kennel run off the cellar door that circled half the yard. We put that up once we had kids and one day saw one of them holding a piece of poop. Once the dogs did their "business" they were welcomed in the main yard, and unplanned poops got picked right up.

No scoop but shoot it right into the ground with the water hose immediately, the grass has never been greener. :flower:

I have a Rottie and I scoop her poop daily as I also have a 6-year-old and don't want her running/falling/rolling into a pile of it. The worst is when the snow melts and I have a yard full of 3-4 months' worth of semi-thawed dog poop.

I hired someone off of Craig's List that comes and scoops poop for me once a week. After the winter of 2013 when the snow was so bad I couldn't scoop for a few months, I decided to hire someone to do it for me. Well worth the $15 a week to not have to deal with it!

Mutt Mitts, can't live without them. If you have an HOA, there must be covenants about yard condition requirements. Picking up the dog waste would be included.

We have a small dog, but we still scoop about once a week in our fenced back yard. If there is enough poop for there to be odor that travels across into the neighbor's space, it should be taken care of. Gross.

This was an issue for one home in our neighborhood. The HOA didn't get involved because it was an issue that only affected that one neighbor and they had to work it out themselves.

We had an issue with our neighbor's septic tank. Same sort of deal.

We have 2 large dogs who both poop in the bottom half of the yard.
Our yard is fairly large and fenced with a 6ft privacy fence.

We don't scoop but would if they pooped everywhere.

The kids know to stay away from the "poop part."

If I were you I'd just do some privacy landscaping.

Our Large dog has been trained to pooh/ pee in one area of almost a 2 acre lot. Yes we do pick it up or she will get all fussy about finding a clean spot to go. lol

Normally I do this on Sunday spring, summer and fall she poohs about twice day.
jan/ feb this year we couldn't see the ground so 60 * 2 = 120 pooh piles
Lets just say OMG spring clean up is horrible. lol

Also, even though your HOA doesn't specify that owners keep pet waste cleaned from their property, I would ask anyway...it's extremely unsanitary and invites parasites and other bugs. And, yes, when it gets hot out you will definitely smell it. I can't even imagine leaving let waste out for a week...maybe 2-3 days, but not a week or longer. If the HOA won't do anything, check into local city ordinances.

I would first try to approach them nicely about being mindful to pick it up along the fence line...let them know it smells (even if it doesn't yet). One would think they'd be extremely embarrassed and would be more mindful of that, but who knows...some people are slobs.
Oh please. How many times a day does your dog poop? Mine does once a day. And we feed a really good food, so those 100lb dog poops are miniscule and very dry. We have a hard time finding them once a week. There is no way they smell or attract flies in one week time.

Now, I can see if you are feeding Purina Dog Chow and your dog is having massive bowel movements.

I am pretty sure no HOA would force poop clean up more than once a week as most services that do poop clean up do it on a weekly basis.

Speaking of biodegradable disposable bags....Ramani Narayana ,chemical engineer and developer of such is quoted as saying "Usually, nothing biodegrades in a landfill. But if biodegradable plastics do break down in this oxygen-free environment, they'll emit methane, a greenhouse gas 23 times more potent than CO2." Honestly, dog doo breaks down fast, It dries out and goes away. It's nature. Your backyard is filled with poo from birds, chipmunks, squirrels etc. We don't scoop and then place the poo into some sort of bag which then goes into a land fill. We let nature take its course and the poo dries out. Our yard has zero smell and I'm a very picky smeller. And we have two large dogs.

I thought dogs pooh about 15 mins after you feed them...
