Dog owners- do you scoop poop in your own yard?

I don't have a dog, but if I did, I would have it poop in a designated area near a fence or something where we don't walk. Even my in laws who are super neat freaks do this. Once it dries it doesn't stink, and the place their dog poops is only a few feet away from where we park when we go there, and I've never smelled the dog poop at all.

My brother lets his dog poop anywhere in the yard, and a service comes and scoops it up twice a week. I think that paying for that particular service is one of the funniest things I've ever heard of.

Plastic bags are destroying our oceans. And states are starting moves to ban plastic bags. I'm curious, will everyone still pick up poop if you have to put it in a paper sack? I grew up using paper bags and sacks and we left all animal mess to dissolve into the ground. Fascinating how things have changed since the 60s. I can totally see why folks wouldn't want their children stepping in poo. We switched to a no-grain food and the poo has shrunk by a very large volume.

We put ours into paper grocery bags, use about 1 per week and scoop once a day.

I don't always put it in a bag. sometimes I just pile it up and run it over with the mower. Free fertilizer.

Carnivore droppings aren't very good fertilizer, just so you know.

We have three dogs and I scoop as soon as they go. I generally go out with them so it is easy. Our backyard isn't huge and it would be unusable if we didn't keep it picked up. In the winter I scoop as long as I can, until the snow/cold makes it impossible and then I am out as soon as there is a melt.

Our right hand neighbors have three small dogs and rarely scoop, our left hand neighbors have two larger dogs and scoop a few times a week.

Yes, usually right before we mow. I don't know what you can do about your neighbors. Sounds icky.

My dog has long since passed, but she was a chihuahua and we scooped her poop every couple of days. Can't imagine letting poop pile up from a group of large dogs--really gross and inconsiderate.

We use plastic bags- we get three newspapers delivered each day and each one of them comes in a plastic bag- we use those bags as poop bags. Either way those bags were going in the trash, poop filled or not poop filled.

A little research might be helpful concerning the difference in a domesticated dog's feces as opposed to wildlife feces. There is research that dog feces can and have contaminated different water sources. I also doubt the local wildlife all congregate in all of your neighbors yards on a daily basis to defecate. Proclaiming a problem as hyperbole because it hasn't affected you personally (at least that you are aware of ), isn't cause to become dismissive . Do people still argue that global climate change is hyperbole?
I agree the plastic bag for poop removal is flawed, many brands of biodegradable disposal bags are falsely advertized as such. Your method seems like a feasible option. My point is dog poop piling up in a yard is nasty, full of contaminates and unsanitary, such as the situation the op was complaining of in the first post. Don't these neighbors use their yards for anything other than their pets overflowing toilet?

I'm a little OCD and have never liked seeing poop just sitting somewhere.

When we had our very large dog, we would walk her in our development to do her business in the street. We carried a pooper scooper (cause picking up with my hand in a bag/mitt just grosses me out) and scooped it up to dump it into a small trash can in our garage, which we would dispose of weekly.

We have a nice size backyard and I liked being able to be barefoot in it, without worry of stepping in poop. When we had D, it was also nice to have her run around without fear of her falling face first into a pile of doodie.

OMG, we are so lucky....
We have a Lab who is like a cat when it comes to pooping!!!!
He will go off somewhere out of the way, (we do have some woods and bushes), and then even like try to kick leaves and stuff over it.
Total NON issue with our dog.

My son laughs when we walk the dog...
When it it time to go, my son says he "Puts it in reverse..." and backs up to some bushes or something.

Our city has what I call a "doodie ordinance" that specifies that poo must be picked up at least every 3 days. Do I pick it up that often? I try to, but won't pick it up when it is pouring down rain. Our backyard is fenced, and we only have one dog, a Beagle. And it rains A LOT here.

Our front yard is not fenced. To get a fence in the front yard, you basically have to beg the city, and the amount they would let you fence would only be about half of the property (in case they want to widen the road is my guess). We have issues with the neighbors dogs and cats using our yard as a toilet. It really frustrates me. I need to watch where I walk in my own yard when I go to check the mail. My dog does not do his business in the front yard. Ever.

I grudgingly *tolerate* it (for now) because I don't want to get into it with the neighbors, and I have not seen with my own eyes their pets use my yard as a bathroom (yet).

In the summer I go around 2-3 times a week and pick up the poop. In the winter... no. I don't like freezing my rear off and I really don't like freezing to pick up poo. Maybe once a month. Maybe. But any other time of year, yes, we scoop the poop.

Not every day, but at least once (sometimes more if it's hot) a week my sons take care of that little chore. We have 3 dogs, though, so it's got to be done regularly since none of us want to smell it or step in it!

My dog far prefers to do her business on her walks, and since she is walked at least three times a day it is usually a non-issue. On the rare occasions she uses the yard, we pick it up immediately. Mutt mitts are our preferred tool for both walk and yard cleanup.

LOLing at all the kids with pick-up duty. It was my job as a kid and I hated it. Picking up a whole week's worth for our two big dogs was just awful. I can't imagine going back to accumulation.

Also agree that your neighbors are either clueless or rude. With a privacy fence, it might be (a little) more excusable but with the set up you have ..... Just ick.

I live in an apartment and don't have a dog of my own, but when I lived in my parents home we did have a dog and let him out in the yard. We always scooped up her poop because we didn't want piles of poop laying around the yard to smell and look disgusting. Plus when my dad mowed the lawn he didn't want to have piles of poop to dodge while mowing.

Yes. Twice a week. We have trash pickup twice a week, so I pick up the night before to have it hauled away. It takes about 5 minutes.

I have a golden retriever and it gets hot and humid here. Leaving it is not an option if we want to use our lanai.
