I'm posting this here for money conscious people who may have had the same thing happen.

I am preparing for a trip to the US (from Canada). I left some cash on the coffee table and the dog ate part of 3 bills. All bills have more than 50% remaining (75, 65, 55% respectively). Am I able to take these into a bank (in the US) and get them exchanged or will I have to send them to the people in Washington?

Any thoughts?

I have had no issues getting damaged bills replaced at my US bank. There is a required percentage of the bill that must still be visible for replacement. With 75% and 65% still there, you should be good :). Not sure about the 55% one. My dog ate mine too!

Thanks, here's hoping they will allow me to do it (I'm Canadian). Otherwise I guess I'll just cut back on my shopping.

Tape the remains all three of the bills to sheets of paper and bring them all in to the bank at the same time.

The bank examiner might be more lenient with the 55% bill after having inspecting the other two.

Thank you. I'll do that. Is this something they can do on the spot or will it take a day or two?

You need to have both serial numbers or one whole one and majority of the 2nd in order to swap it out at a bank.
