Dog Days at Disneyworld

I'm interested in what people think of the Disneyworld kennels? Is it time consuming to visit the dog every day? Are there any resorts within walking distance or that are just easier to access the kennel from? Any thoughts?

The Polynesian is within walking distance of the MK kennels.

Can't help otherwise as we've never taken our dog(s) down there.

Disney Kennels (as of a few years ago) were not much to write home about. You do have visit often and I think it is hard on the pet and the vacation. Still, if you do not mind going over several times a day it is better than leaving your pet at a kennel at home.Relative or friend would be best, if possible.

and won't use them again unless there's just no other way. Not that they were unclean or in poor condition, quite the contrary. It's just that it was too difficult to go and walk our dog 3 or 4 times a day. And, our dogs are spoiled. Don't do well in kennels.

However, yes, you could stay at the Poly and walk to the kennel. I guess that wouldn't be too bad but if you're like me, I feel guilty if I don't walk them at least 3 times a day.

I have heard that the kennel at Epcot will walk your dog for an extra fee. That's something to think about.

This is the one thing I absolutely hate about going on vacations, I feel so guilty leaving my dog anywhere, and I have only had a dog for about a year and a half! I got attached to him so quickly, and last year when we went on vacation we left him in a kennel for 8 days and it was so hard on ME! This year will be twice as hard since I am even more attached now. I have considered bringing him with us and putting him in the Disney kennel so that I could at least see him every day, but that would mean driving instead of flying, which would suck. I'd be interested in any more comments on the disney kennels myself.

We have taken our dogs a few times and if there is any other place to put them I would. Again not because they are not good or clean or any of that! It is very hard to go there and walk your dog. The hours that they open and close were not good for us as we were trying to enjoy the early entry to the parks and had to rush over to the kennel on the monorail. Also our dogs were used to being let out lvery early in the morning(like 5AM) and late at night and again the kennels were closed.

Also at the time you had your choice of an inside cage or an outside run. Our dogs are house dogs and only go outside to be with us or do their business. If we had left them in an outside run in a strange place and over night I think they would have had heart attacks! Also we left our one golden there when he was only a few months old and it really confused him about being housebroken. I felt so sorry for the workers there as our poor pup was having many accidents a day! We had left his blanket with him and he wet it so many times that all they did was wash and dry it all day long. They finally stopped giving it to him!

I would much prefer to leave them somewhere where they can be inside and yet go outside when they need to go.

If you are just going for a day, it seems to be a fine place but again remember you are responsible for all potty breaks for your dog! At least this is how it has been every time we used it.

The kennels are nice and clean...but, taking the dogs is a pain.

They ask that you walk them once/twice a day...the cages are small. The people running them are very nice, but, remember they are not kennel professionals.

If you can find a great place at home, or a dog sitter I would use that instead.

This is one area that disney is sadly lacking in.

We wondered about the kennels too.

you are responsible for all potty breaks for your dog!

???? That means you have to let them out, etc??
What kind of kennel doesn't "care" for the dogs??
I thought a kennel is supposed to feed and let them out in order for them to take care of their business.

So in other works.......they just lock the dogs up in cages??
That's it!! ???

So what does this service....or "lack of service" cost???

Our kennel here at home is great......they feed, walk (twice a day is included, but will walk them as much as 5 times, the other 3 times would be for a small additional fee), have scheduled play time (we have to bring her favorite toys), and they will bath her (just before we pick her up, but if she is there longer than 6 days they will bath her twice).
The kennel is right across from the vet & hospital.
And we are welcome to call ANYTIME to check on her....someone is there 24/7!!
They will call us too if there is anything out of the ordinary....once our Springer did not want to eat for a couple days and they called. She just gets like that sometimes when she feels sad...so they added more play time....no charge.

I am surprised they don't have better service!

I guess when I think about it........too many liabilites to really be feeding and walking, etc........
They would have too many different dogs and not knowing what their personalities are!!??

Thanks everyone, for your posts! I had thought that maybe the Disney kennel would be more "fun" for my dog than boarding her with the vet, but I guess not! She has an indoor kennel there and the choice to go into a run outside whenever she likes, the people who work there know my dog, etc. Sounds like the vet will be a better option for us than Disney. I'm glad I found out more about this BEFORE we got all the way to Florida and then wished we hadn't brought the dog along!

Last year when we left our dog at the kennel, I was very angry because before we left him, I wanted to SEE the kennels, and actually bring my dog into the place they would keep him and they refused to let me see it, they gave me a song and dance by saying that they were full (it was a holiday weekend coming up) and that my going back where all the dogs were would only upset ALL the dogs. I never heard of this before and it concerned me that I wasn't allowed to see where my dog would be, but unfortunately we were on our way to the airport and there was nothing I could do but leave him there. I felt so horrible. It ruined my vacation. This time I will either leave him with a relative or find somewhere else.
