Dog boarding prices

I pay $17/dog/day at my vets office. (85 lbs and 50 lb puppy) They have outdoor kennels surrounding a common area right outside the office. If the dogs all get along, they can be in the very large common area all day. They don't allow intact males, so there isn't fighting. The staff is in and out of the areas all day, so they have lots of contact. They put them indoors at night or if it's too cold out. I was afraid my territorial male would fight, but it was pointed out to me that this is not his territory, so he will have nothing to defend. They were right, he got into a spat with my other male once..over food. And since they were at the vet's, they fixed his ear flap right there. It's not a "doggie spa", but it is fine for them. I think they have a good time. I hope so, we are going to be gone almost 2 weeks on our next trip.

I haven't been able to find a reasonable dog sitter that will come 4X per day. I can't expect my dogs to only pee 2-3X per day.

it is just my suggestion that you get a pet sitter and check his or her refrences then have a scheduled time of day and have a neighbor check to make sure it is getting done ... tell the pet sitter the neighbor will be in and out of the house .... even though they wont .
I used to work at MANY different vet hospitals and boarding kennels it is VERY stressful for dogs and we even had 1 die from it . Also look at the kennel if you must go that route do they close??? most places close from 6 pm to 6 am leaving dogs in the dark for hours and having to pee and poop in their cages another thing they can stress about bec most dogs HATE that ... if they say they walk your dogs extra for an extra fee ask what time of day... then go to the place during that time chances are you wont see anyone walking any dogs. I wouldnt reccommend boarding at a place where dogs play together either too many dog fights happen this way it is a free for all for other dogs to pick on and harass your dogs. . some pet sitters will stay overnight i live in california and ours charges 65 for the overnight stay she leaves at about 8 am and comes back that night at about 5 for the rest of the evening
a small price to pay for the stress free envoriment your dog will have '

Our neighbor takes care of our dogs while we are gone. We pay her $10/day and she feeds/waters/lets the dogs out twice a day. She is 13, but her mom overseas everything.

Last time we went to Disney it snowed....they even took pictures of the dogs playing in the snow for us!

Our local kennel is $18/night per dog. When we had one dog it wasn't quite as bad, but $36/night for dogs is really high.

The kennel was so stressful for my dogs that for the past 8 years, we've only used a pet sitter. Even as a puppy, we tried to get our beagle used to a kennel by starting out with a 1 nt stay, then 2 nights, then 3. He was always nervous and would shake terribly.

During one trip, he started getting bloody diahrrea. The stress was just too much. So since then we've always used a dogsitter. I pay $75/day($25/visit). It's a lot of money, but we have no choice. I'm picky about my dogsitter, so that's why I pay so much.

It's really hard to find someone you can really trust, who comes into your home. Unless there's an emergency, I will never use a kennel. I plan my trips around my dogsitter's schedule. If she's not available, we don't go.:headache: Unfortunately, we don't have relatives around and I don't want to put that kind of responsibility on a friend.

Many dogs do fine in kennels. Just make sure you shop around and get recommendations from people with pets. Dog kennels are not created equal. The care can vary a lot. It's stressful enough for pets to be away from home, let alone be put in a place where care can be minimal.

We have boarded our dogs several places, but our favorite place (and the only one we use now) has indoor/outdoor runs. There is a small, indoor area (ranging from 2'x3' to 4'x5' depending on the size of your dogs) and then an indoor/outdoor run (ranging from 2'x8' to 5'x8'). It's connected with a doggie door to the indoor part, but the dogs have free access. It's in a big pole-barn structure. On nice days they roll up big garage doors and the sun can shine in. On not-nice days, they keep the doors down. It's also nice that they don't have to potty where they sleep. They can go "outside" to do their business.

.....
They also have "TLC" sessions where they'll take your dog out on a leash walk, or play fetch in a fenced area with him (one-on-one attention). That's an additional $3 per 15 minutes.
I've lived all across the country - and this is the ONLY type place I will leave my dogs.

Sometimes I've had to drive 30+ miles to get to one with indoor/outdoor runs - but it is worth it.

My dogs are much too social to be left at home alone with a pet sitter visiting. I think it depends on the dog's personality. I tried having someone come by (very reputable) but it caused huge stress for the dog. I also tend to have rescue dogs that have spent time abandoned so I think that is part of the issue.

We looked into pet sitting services recently - we have 3 collies, ages 11.5, 6.5, and 1 year - and a vet tech from our vet's office advised her price for feeding and two walks per day was $25/day for all three.

We decided to hire our neighbor to pet & house sit for a flat rate of $200. She knows our dogs and is very good with them. Plus, she can hang out at our house in the evening for as long as she likes and keep the dogs company.

We use Camp Bow Wow and our dog loves it! He's really social, so he loves playing all day with other dogs. You can even check on them during the day on webcams. He then goes into his own "cabin" at night. We pack his own food and toys so he's comfortable. It's $33/night, so kind of pricey but we know he has a great time.

I just wanted to add that we've never left our dog there for longer than 2 nights at a time. He comes home really exhausted from playing all day, so if we were to go somewhere longer I'd let a family friend dog-sit or request more alone-time for him during the day in his cabin at Camp Bow Wow.

We pay $30 a day at our "Pet Ritz". She gets 2 meals, 5 walks, a huge pen and there is a vet tech there 24/7. For an additional $5 we can put her in a "doggie playgroup" for 2 hours of social time. We do that about every other day she's there. She loves it and is exhausted when we bring her home.

My mom owned a boarding and grooming kennel and I have worked at a few throughout the years.. Make sure the kennel has outdoor/indoor runs. It makes it a lot nicer if the dog is able to go in and out as they please (unless it's cold of course!). The last kennel I worked at the prices ranged for 18-25 dollars per night but that included laundry service, treats and chewies, and webcam access. She had several cams throughout the kennels so owners could view their dogs while on vacation. I would definately reccommend making an appointment to see the kennel before making reservations to make sure you really like it and some kennel owners don't allow it and personally I wouldn't leave a dog there if I couldn't see the facility. The last kennel I worked also only did things by appointment (viewing the kennel, drop off, pick up) that way she avoided any sort of issue that could arrise.

We have a 2-yr old English Mastiff female with a heart murmur. She is on medication and a special food. She has been going to Doggie Daycare since she was a pup at PetsHotel and we use them anytime we go away. The cost for her own "suite" with a tile floor, bed and TV with full-day play (plus the additional charge to administer her medication) is $37/day. They have someone on staff 24/7 and Gigi loves it there!

My dogs ( 2 large Dalamations0 are bordered @ a plain Jane kennel that has indoor outdoor runs . The have the large kennel together and includes food etc. for our wdw vac Dec 5-15 it cost $194.oo with tax. This kennel is nothing spectacular no report cards etc; however , they have boarded my dog for 10 years and my parents dog for 20 +. :thumbsup2

Wow! The vet clinic I worked at was at $8.50 per night (prices are one year old). That included everything, though you were welcome to bring your own food/toys/whatever. Flea treatment was required and the were walked at least three times daily and were in a 8'x4' kennel run. That was/is pretty much the going rate for our rural area.

Our big baby goes to our vet's office. They charge $32.50 per night. It's pricey but DH doesn't like the idea of someone coming into our home while we're not home. Our dog has an IBD issue, eats special food and takes meds. We wouldn't want anyone to have to clean up our home if she made a mess while they were watching her. So we pay the big bucks. That's the price we pay for rescuing a dog from the SPCA!

We now use our local doggie daycare. for my 12 pound ****zu. he gets a small suite with a toddler bed, I provide my own food and toys and blankets so he has his own things. For 42 a day he gets his small suite plus he is loose all day in doggie daycare/ at 8pm he goes in his suite till 6am. There is no one on sight/
Last August for 8 nights the total was 396.12.

My furbaby goes to the Woofdorf Astoria. I love this place. LOVE IT, LOVE IT. LOVE IT. The rate for Riley is $38 per night.

I love that it is staffed 24/7. My furbaby doesn't care for thunderstorms,he gets anxious when he is home alone - so the 24/7 is a HUGE deal for me.

During the day, the dogs are split between the bigger dogs, and "smallville" dogs. They run/play both inside and out. They are only in their suites when they are eating and at night from about 10 am until about 6 am.

The only thing I wish was different...it is about a 1.25 hour drive from our house to the Woofdorf. I wish it were closer to our house. I wouldn't change anything else. NOTHING.

My dogs go to a 'B&B' for dogs. Its great! They charge $22 per 24 hours for both dogs, which is a dscount since they stay in the same kennel. They get to play all day, from 6:30am to 9pm. I love they are open that late because I like taking late flights back home and it is on the way to the airport. Last Christmas one of my dogs had to take a few different meds and they gave it to her no problem. They also call if our dogs get sick or anything happens. I have worked at a few dog daycares and would advise to looke at the ABKA list and the BBB. Also take a tour of the facility and let your dog have a day of play there to make sure they enjoy it!
