Does your town have a children's museum?

I've only been to four (Indianapolis, St. Joseph, Mi., Louisville, and Lexington), but it would be fun to make a day trip to visit some.

Here's the website for ours. If you do the virtual tour, you can see all the fun stuff it has.

My town does not, but it does have a nature center. Two of the towns adjacent to mine have childrens museums and there are a few more within a half hour drive.

yes, my hometown in RI has one, we went to it a lot, it was free the 1st sunday of the month (I think that was the day) but I LOVED the one in Philly. We went to that one twice. They have the room dedicated to Maurice Sedlak (sp.), who is my favorite childrens book author! I can recite the whole "where the wild things are" book but I can't remember what I wore yesterday! :rotfl:

Everyone should go to the City Museum in St Louis at least once in their life, no matter how far they have to travel to get there. It is truly amazing, there is nothing like it anywhere in the world. I can't even begin to describe how incredible it is! It's not your average "museum" at all. Check it out:

Cool! Thank you! That's fairly close to us.

Question: my husband says St Louis is a high-crime area and he's afraid to vacation there. Is this true? Or are there certain areas that are and we should steer clear of? (I hope I'm not being offensive...it seems like a lovely city to me and I've always wanted to visit.)

Not in my town, but there is one here on LI in Garden City. There is also one in NYC and Brooklyn (both easy for me to get to).

Oh absolutely NOT! I know, we were listed as the most dangerous city a few months ago, but that's completely inaccurate. One of our news station's interviewed the guy who came up with that list to ask him how he figured that. Basically he said that we don't have enough police. I can't remember exactly what was said, but essentially he didn't count our "county" police or something strange like that and just sort of said "oh well".

St. Louis is just as safe as any other major metropolitan area. Just as there are bad areas of every city, there are here too. None of the tourist places are in those areas, so if you stick to them you'll be fine.

Not sure how far from here you are, but Richmond has a children's museum. Their website is www.c-mor.org. We've never been there but I understand it's supposed to be a really nice museum. It's also close to the Science Museum of Virginia.

We have one.

Amazement Square has some really neat features, my daughters favorites are the towers that runs through the center of the building and the Paint Box room (you take your shoes and socks off , put on a smock and go in this glass room where you can paint all over the walls. They close it down ever few hours to hose the room down, let it dry and start all over.)

"The tallest indoor climbing structure in the nation, the Amazement Tower extends through all four floors of the museum and reaches into an observation deck on the roof. An endless maze of slides, ladders, tunnels and a zip-line, the Tower also incorporates an illuminating staircase and a glass elevator, making it possible for every visitor to experience a unique journey through the museum."

Yes, the Please Touch Museum - I like it a lot. I went there once because they were having an Alice in Wonderland exhibit, which is my favorite book/movie ever.

There's a lot of great museums here, all in the same area - the Franklin Institute and the Philadelphia Museum of Art are right there on the Ben Franklin Parkway too.
