OK--so South Carolina, I am finding out, has some really strange laws (for instance--until JUST this month--it has been illegal to get a tatoo) but this one has me baffled:

Today is an SC election day, and the law states that no one is allowed to buy lottery tickets on election day. No joke--it is a law here. I can not figure out what the lawmaker's logic was in enacting this--or why it was never repealed. Does anyone else's state do this????

I shouldn't be surprised coming from the state that required mini-bottles in bars.

Other than bazaar laws---it's a great place to live.

Hmmm...that's a strange one. Don't know about here in TN, since we've only just gotten the lottery this year. I guess we'll see on election day :)

Hey wendyl, I was in "Sparkle City" just this afternoon..How's it going?? ( I used to be lindajo the last time we talked)>

Yep, I saw that sign about lottery sales at the store the other day..I was so puzzled by it that I couldn't follow what the salesclerk was saying to me about my transaction....He laughed and said (in a NY accent) "you ARE in SC, you know!"

Minibottles..we are the last state (why are we always last???) to have them,(we STILL have them, but we get to vote them out next election.) the taxes are higher so the govt likes em. Even though they deliver 1 and 1/2 times the amount of alcohol in a shot. And they have to use the whole minibottle. So, if anyone out there knows how to make a mixed drink that has disproportionate liquors in it, HOW DO YOU MAKE A MARGUERITA WITH MINIBOTTLES-you know, you need a splash of triple sec!!!??? And if you order something like Long Island Iced Tea, what does that have, 5 different liquors in it?? So you get a drink that has the equivalent of 7 and 1/2 shots in it! And this is in the state that is the buckle of the bible belt....:sad2:

We have NO lottery here! But I am sure we have some pretty outrageous laws here, too!

I'll live there. I love the mini bottles - I collect them and I've got about 110 different ones. They're so cute!

I think the strangest one in CT is that car dealers can't open on Sunday.

We also have a left over from the days of The Great Depresiion.
No bank can be closed 4 days in a row.

Lindajo--I have been wondering where you went!!! Good to see you again!!!

Are you kidding? In New York they wouldn't DARE spare themselves a day to not make a buck. ;)

I know in Michigan it used to be against the law to swear in front of women and children. A few years ago a man was actually prosecuted for swearing during a canoe trip. I think after that the law was changed.

THAT'S why you CAN'T get a single Long Island Iced Tea! It can only be ordered by the pitcher!! At least in all the bars in Charleston when I was in college.....always had to find a few friends to share a pitcher with if you wanted some "tea" ::yes::

Bet it's the same with margaritas....perhaps they mix up large batches....

But I left before the lottery stuff came about, so can't help you there :confused3

I think Georgia does that also but I am not sure. I rarely buy tickets but it seems like I might have been turned away a few years back for that reason.

In Jersey, you may NOT take a horse drawn carriage onto the highway...UNLESS you have enough bells for it to be heard...

All sorts of crazy laws exist that were just never stricken from the books....

There used to be a book, something like "Donkeys can't sleep in bathtubs, and other dumb laws" or something, filled with ridiculous and pointless laws that are still in existance (although not necessarily enforced!)

I remember hearing a long time ago that it's illegal in WV to drive barefoot. Don't know if that's still true.
