Yes, our grade schools encourage parents to drop in any time.

April 7 is Grandparents Day! We rec'd invites to a popluck luncheon and to spend an hour w/our grands in their class room. It is a very fun and much looked forward visit by children and grandparents.

Yep. One of the really neat things about having lunch with the kids is getting to interact with their friends. The kids are so thrilled that you get a lot of "Are you Megan's Mom?" and "Can you help me open this?" LOL!! I find that the kids are so comfortable with the environment that they really open up to a "strange" adult more. It's a great way to get to know your child's friends. I don't do it too often, but my kids love it.

We do have parents stop by to visit on occasion at lunch. They are usually dropping off a hot meal. On Fridays, you can buy lunch and it is served by parents. We have no kitchen so everyone bags it the other days. So Fridays we have quite a few parents hanging out.

As a lunch aide, I would advise parents to know the rules of the lunchroom. For instance, there are certain times the children need to be quiet and listen and it drives me crazy when the parents keep talking. The children get very excited when parents are around so help keep thing low key and in order. We have four aides and around 100 kids each lunch. It gets a little hairy sometimes.

Yes, at DS elem. school, we are allowed to come eat whenever we want, they just request that you let the teacher know that morning.

Was allowed in both my dd elementary schools and I dropped in on occasion. In middle school I occasionally ate with my daughter as I was a sub there but usually went and ate in the staff lounge. High school we would go out together for lunch when I subbed. Her high school was on the Community College Campus and had no cafeteria. It was no uncommon to see the students and teachers at that school eating lunch together at any number of small restaurants in the area.
