Yes. We have a regular basement... 2/3 is 3/4 finished with a bathroom, and the other 1/3 is storage and laundry, unfinished. I don't know how deep our basement is, but it is 4 steps up from outside to get into our house, and 12 steps down to the basement.

yes and until this storm came and is flooding my basement I used to like having one LOL!
Have a basement and have never seen a house around here that doesn't have a basement. I'm in the same situation as the quote above. Bought the house 10 years ago and the basement was empty. It collected junk for 10 years except for one corner that just had the computer (no room upstairs for the computer.) Our basement is always dry, though we do have a pit and a sump pump that the laundry goes to along with the drain in the outside stairwell.

We got new furniture upstairs so we cleaned up the basement and took the old furniture down there. We took the spare TV and satellite receiver down and let the kids paint it up. They had a nice little TV area for themselves along with the dog was pleased she was allowed on the couch down in the basement. Of course that was only 2 weeks ago and yesterday I went down to find 4 inches of water completely covered the entire basement. The sump pump went out sometime the past day or 2. The upstairs shower drains into the sump and as I said, the stairwell drain runs into it also.

Luckily where the furniture is for the kid's TV area must be more sloped up because none of the furniture got wet. I usually have my guitar leaning up against the computer desk and the amp next to it, but during the cleaning this past week or so, they both got moved up out of the way on an old dresser. Everything else is basically just junk that collected and it all doesn't matter if it got wet.

A new pump from the store and a Home Depot shop vac and the basement went from 4 inches of water to bone dry in under 6 hours.
