Does your high school do this?

Same here. I had Seniors in my Spanish II class when I was a Sophomre because they chose to take it later. Even in some of my core classes, there were kids from other grades. When I was a Junior in Algebra II/Trig, there were several Sophomores in my class because they were more advanced.

Of course. I'm as old as dirt and we had kids from all grades in elective classes.

At our schools, English and the science and social studies recommended for freshmen are really the only classes that are single grade. In math, some come in having already had algebra, some double up and take two math classes while others take the minimum. Electives vary widely. My son is a senior who concentrates in fine arts. This semester he has Pottery I, so his class is mostly freshmen. He also has Art IV -- no freshmen or sophomores in there and there won't be any in AP Art spring semester either.

My school was like this as well. Electives were mixed. Most core classes were grade specific but I dropped out of AP Chemistry and went to AP Standard Sophmore year and then I was in a class with kids 1 grade higher than me.

So even our core classes could be mixed if a kid came from AP to Standard.

Past 10th grade things got pretty mixed since you had more and more spots for electives.

And I never though of this but my kids will be only 1 year apart in grade so I guess they will most likely have some classes together in HS.

They have been doing this since at least 1982 in Washington. Most of my electives were with juniors or seniors. It was as great if you wanted to have more challenging courses and date older girls. In fact I was pretty much done a senior and only went half days. Spent the rest of the day interning.

Sure - mixed grade levels are common here. My sons are two years apart and they only had one class together - journalism. They don't look alike and the teacher didn't realize that they were brothers til the end of this one semester class! (duh! our name isn't very common!)

My high school did this, as does my dd's high school. All electives are mixed, core classes have placement based on the student's proficiency (some freshman will have geometry, some will have algebra I).

That's how my high school was.

My HS was same way (graduated in 1998). Pretty much the only class that was grade specific was English. Pretty much everything else was mixed.

I have a twin brother, so we ended up in a LOT of classes together from middle school on. It really stank when the teachers made us sit in alphabetical order. Only good part was if one of us missed school, the other would know our assignments/homework.

My dd is a freshman and has all grade levels in Band, Spanish, & even some of the core classes due to kids transferring into the High School from other areas. (Lots of kids from all over the globe here in North Texas. It just blows me away.)
