Just curious...I went to the grocery today and I figured my bill and we spend almost as much on 'snacks' as we do on 'meal type food' & by snacks I mean -Little Debbie's, Chips, Ice Cream, Cookies, etc....

Very little. We only buy snacks like that if they are on sale and we have a coupon. Cuts down on a lot of the impulse buying. I try to buy jello, popcorn, quakes, and stuff like that for snacking when we do. If the other stuff is in the house I will eat it and that is the last thing I need to do!

My kids do! So I try to buy mostly healthy stuff to snack on (but always have to throw in the occasional junk for good measure! :rotfl: )

I always keep on hand...
-Apples
-Bananas
-Grapes
-Applesauce cups (all natural)
-String cheese
-Cereal bars (I buy the kind at Whole Foods that are all natural)
-Crackery stuff (cheez its, teddy grahams, goldfish, etc.)
-Pretzels
-GoGurt
-Popscicles in the summer (usually buy the case of Flav-Or-Ice from Costco)
-Cereal (Honey Nut Cheerios, Frosted Mini Wheats & Rice Krispies are all I buy)

My kids actually much prefer to graze all day than eat a whole meal, so that's usually what they do in the summer.

We snack a lot here, but not on the prepackaged foods.

We always try to have:

-Grapes
-Watermelon
-Plums
-Bananas
-Apples
-Pretzels
-Canned Pineapple (& Pineapple Juice)
-Cut up Veggies (Broccoli & Cauliflower)
-Cereal
-Lunchmeats
-Sliced Cheeses

I always clean and chop the fruits and veggies as soon as I get home from the store. This way everything is easier to grab when we want it.

For "junk" food, I'll buy baked chips, popsicles, sugar-free pudding cups (with fat-free Reddi-Whip!), & boxes of sugar-free jello.

ETA: After reading the other replies I basically have the same foods as lemondog!

Yes mine do. We spend alot on snacks not only for us but for all the kids that come over. Our house is the hangout house and the kids all have free reign of the pantry.

My youngest DD 10 eats me out of house and home. She comes home and has at least 2 snacks before dinner. My oldest DD 11 has a bad sweet tooth but mostly grazes. My son age 15 doesnt seem to eat as much as my youngest but he will if it is something he really likes.

Our grocery bills are through the roof even with costco runs.

We don't buy junk food.

Snacks for us are:

bananas
pb crackers
string cheese
mandarin orange segments
popcorn
reduced fat cheezits (these are our nanny's faves, so we stock up to please her ;))

Once in a VERRRY great while I will buy a box of Nutty Bars for DH. These are his fave. But I make him share vs hoard. ;)
