Does your deli "dangle" your meat slices?

I am about to go off to the store for groceries including a stop at the deli section. Last year, they started a thing where they hold up the first slice of meat and dangle it in front of you to see if it is OK. This just grosses me out! Just slice it for goodness sake! If I wanted it thicker or thinner than normal, I would have said so. Now when I give my order, I ask them not to show me the slice. I have had a few other customers tell me that it bothers them too.
How about any of you? Is this the new customer service at the deli?

Dangle away, it doesn't bother me. Susan

Yep, my deli dangles too!

I guess they can't figure out what it means when you say slice it "thick" or "thin"...

Mine does this as well. Doesn't bother me at all becuase my thin might be different than their thin.

At the Publix I go to, they put the first slice on a piece of that plastic wrap and show it to you, no dangling. They usually give it to you to sample while they finishing slicing.

:rotfl:
This thread title gave me a good laugh.

And it looks like the tag fairy has been around .....check out your new tag :teeth:

Stop & Shop here in my hometown is a "dangler" but it doesn't bother me!

LOL I love your new tag. I never buy deli sliced meat so I have no idea if they dangle or not, but I spend a lot of time in grocery stores and I am suprised how very very pickey some people are about things like that so its not surprising that they would.

I also prefer the "deli dangle". :D

I hate to get home to find my meat thick! :D

My deli dangles too. BUT, usually....they have a stash already cut and give it to you like it is unless you request a different size.

I think it's courteousy. You should just tell them slice it any way and it'll be fine, no need to get a confirmation. :p

Our deli has done this forever....I'd say since DS was quite small & he's now 23. It doesn't gross me out & I prefer to have them show me what they think "chipped" means. (That's the only way I can get them to cut it thin enough - although I'd prefer to have "slices" to a big pile. ;) )

Our grocery store deli "dangles" too. They they offer the first slice as a little sample while they continue to slice. Doesn't bother me when they dangle, but they always act so surprised when I turn down the freebie slice.

Funny you should ask that as here at Stop and Shop they do it and it drives me NUTS! Not only is it annoying, but it really slows down the line when they have to ask you about every item! (Last time I was there I ordered 4 deli items)

At least it made for a funny new tag for you! :)

No thank goodness, my deli doesn't dangle. That would gross me out! They put the first slice on a piece of plastic wrap. I also don't want my meat from the stash-pile in the case. I've seen how they grab a handful, and just plop it on the paper. A ball of deli meat is not what I have in mind! LOL Sometimes they seem a little annoyed when I ask to have mine cut fresh. Oh well. :D

When you posted the question I immediatetly thought "gosh, that would make a funny tag!" Guess that sneaky Tag Fairy thinks like me.... or I think like them...

:p

I guess I'm just used to it. I don't think I've ever been to a deli that does not dangle.

This thread sounds like it should be a Seinfeld episode:D

Yep, I go to a dangling deli. I don't really care if they dangle, as long as they don't spit.:p

My deli does the same thing. YUCK!! Personally I think it's designed to intimidate you. I'm certainly not going to say I don't like it so they can KEEP dangleing meat at me while other people wait for my reaction!! They just want you to take the first slice thickness and get it over with I guess! I say just cut!!
