Reading this thread got me reminiscing about all the parties I went to with DS when he was preschool and kindergarten. Because the whole class (30 kids) had to get invited, we went to a load of parties! It was a fun time while it lasted though. 
In first and second grades, the parties tended to be for all one sex. After that, the number of children's parties we were invited to dwindled down quite a bit.
