Does your child/teenager earn TV or computer time

No, it is called a great quiet time for me :) But, he can lose the privilege.

Yes. Sometimes we add on some free time, but they are expected to do their chores and homework to earn the privilege of playing games.

since DS is standing right here at my shoulder I would have to say earning tv/computer time by doing chores is a very good idea
DS however says its a dumb idea - lol

no but if he is bad he loses the privilege.

No limits in our house....well until I tell DD to get off cause she has spent tooo much time surfing...:D

No....but my DS can lose TV if he's not doing what he's supposed too or if he misbehaves. A few months ago he lost TV for one month. It was the longest month of my life! All I heard was "I'm bored, I don't know what to do!" The worst part was that I lost my computer during his punishment because then he spent more time playing on the computer (he has all educational games, so it was okay.) ;)

A friend of mine allows her children 15 minute increments of Playstation for every chore they do around the house. During the summer, she will give them 15 minutes of Playstation game time for every book they read. I think that's a fabulous idea!!

I don't do that either.

My DSs don't have to "earn" tv or computer time, as long as they have all of their homework and chores done, they are allowed use of their tv's and computers.

They can, however, lose their tv and/or computer access due to bad behaviour, or if we find out they didn't hand in a homework assignment. This isn't usually a concern in our house since they are both honor roll students and conscientous workers, but it has had to be implemented once or twice in the past.

Our DSs don't "earn" it, but it can be taken away. They are both really good about doing what I ask them to do, but if the computer or TV makes me ask twice, then they get turned off. Daily, in the summer, we turn them off and just sit an read. DSs actually enjoy that!!!!! (and so do I! :):) )

No they do not have to earn it. They can lose it if their grades are bad or falling.
Also when dd has a big project like right now, starting today, I will "take away" the computer and video games until project is completed. It is due Thurs. She needs motivation from mom...;)
