Does where you live affect how much you enjoy WL?

I am from Michigan as well and I can see Pine trees right here in my backyard. I think the WL is beautiful, but when I go to Florida, I want Beach! That is the reason we love the Beach Club so much!

I grew up in Colorado and Idaho. Always wanted to stay in one of the big lodges in one of the National Parks, but we never did. WL is my fave, because I can live out a childhood fantasy of staying in the big lodges!

I'm from MA and DH is from upstate NY and FL. The WL is our favorite resort. I'm not an outdoor girl, but I love the WL because it gives off such a feeling of serenity. DH is outdoorsy and loves it because it reminds him of the PNW

I grew up spending summers on Cape Cod, so I have no interest in the YC or BC because it reminds of the Cape.

PNW resident here. I like to visit it once and maybe go to a resturaunt and get a "taste" of home, but I wouldn't want to stay there. I can't justify traveling all the way across the country to stay in a resort that was built with our local ones in mind. According to the Travel Channel special, it was partly modeled after Timberline Lodge on Mount Hood in Oregon. That is an hour away from us and Timberline is such a special hotel that I feel WL pales in comparison. But we do like to go and look for the similarities

We live an hour from the mountains and an hour from the beach. If we decided not to stay anywhere that reminded us of either, we would be seriously limiting our choice of hotels. So no, just because we can find similar hotels close to home, it doesn't factor into our decision at all.

I was just having this conversation with my hairdresser last night. She recently came back from her first visit to WDW in years. She told me at 1 point her bus went to the WL and asked me what I thought of it because it looked nice.
IMO, its a very nice hotel, and I would love to stay there...if it were in Canada, or the mountains or some cold place. Living in New England, I would have a hard time going to Florida (the land of sunshine) and staying in a woodsy type cold weather feeling place. Like I said, I think its very nice, but I couldnt stay there in Florida. Give me palm trees and beaches!

i know what you are saying. There are plenty of trees and woods here in central ma. as well. we are staying at the WL in august and i cant wait. if we were to have gone in april i think we would have needed a more tropical setting. with it being 90 here in AUG i think being in the woods will be nice. we orignally had our ressies for CSR but i just dont like the southwestern theme at all (NO OFFENSE TO ANYONE) so that is why i changed it to WL realistically i would have loved BC or YC but it didnt fit into our budget
