I heard staying at a universal hotel provides special privileges and the price of the rooms are equivalent to our deluxe rooms??

Those who stay at their deluxe hotels get free express Pass.

yes they do want/need local AP's. Its a way to fill in the dips in attendance.

I'm still looking for the dips in attendance. There's never been one that I've seen in the last 25 years of going.

There are certainly still slow times - like this year mid-August to mid-September was noticeably less crowded.
