I lost a receipt on one item and received a gift I really don't need. Does anyone know if you can still return things to Walmart for store credit?

At our store they require a photo id and your signature for any items you return with no receipt.

You're also limited to three no-receipt returns in a certain period (6 months I think?), so try to return everything you don't want all at one time so it only uses up one of your returns.

I was not allowed to. I went in last week to return a dvd and was told it was an electronic item and they will not take it back without a receipt. This was after standing in line for 20 minutes:headache:

I'm glad to hear this! Santa got my little princess doggie a Snuggie which we don't need because she already has one... lol I was wondering what we would do with an extra little pink Snuggie.

I don't get their return policy. Santa got my kids an easy bake oven and grandmas gave two more. So I took two back with my reciept for one of them. I got $16 back for the one I bought, but $26 back for the one I din't have the receipt for. I thought that you would get the lowest price the item sold for in the last few months. Had I known that, I would have not used any receipt...though I'm too honest to do that. I felt guitly taking back a MI walmart purchase at an IN walmart and getgin an extra 20 cents back due to the difference in taxes.

That is what the "policy" at our local walmart is now too. We got duplicate video games for a birthday not too long ago, tried to take one back in package WITH receipt and was told we could exchange for the same product but could not return video games or dvd's for cash/credit the cs said it was a federal policy. :confused3 no idea how true that is...

I was able to return some stuff to Walmart yesterday with no receipt and they didn't ask for an ID either, so I guess it depends on the stores.

Our Walmart only allows you 3 return in a year without a receipt. They take your id and type it in if you dont have the receipt.

I'm horrible at saving receipts. Unfortunately, I also have a habit of overbuying - you know, I MIGHT need four wreaths, even though I only have two outside doors....so, I need to return two of the wreaths...that sort of thing. Well, I got a gift that I KNEW came from Wal-mart - but had no receipt. Apparently, I had already made my three returns for the six months w/o a receipt. The cashier told me I couldn't return the item (I was really just exchanging for something different - I don't walk in there and expect cash!). She told me of the policy, which I had never heard about until she told me just then. I asked her if that was written anywhere - she said, "No, but the person doing the returns should have told you each time." WELL, NOT ONE person had said anything to me when doing the other returns!! All worked out in the end, as the manager didn't seem to care what I had returned and just did an override. I ended up spending MORE money at Wal-mart that day - they didn't lose any extra $$ because I didn't have a receipt.

I am concerned about a "policy" that isn't written anywhere - instead supposed to be passed on word of mouth. Not sure how "right" that is....

Walmart's return policy is ridiculous, atleast that's what I found this year. I bought cologne on BF that was onsale for 29.00. It turned out to be the wrong one so went to two different Walmarts just wanting to do an even exchange for the right one which was also onsale for the same price BF, both stores refused. Instead, despite the fact I gave them the receipt they returned the item at the regular price :confused3 Thanks Walmart for paying me $14.00 bucks to shop on BF.:rotfl2:

That's not true. I've returned unopened video games, blu-rays, AND dvds to Target on numerous occassions w/o any problem whatsoever. I think cashiers just like to make up crap so people will quit complaining.

I returned some zhu zhu pets to walmart before christmas with out the reciept and the girl working the register was a total b*tt about it. She asked when I got the items,9 total, so she could look it up in the computer system.
I told her i had collected them over a period of time. I got them for my bestfriends grandson, well it turned out she had gotten a super duper set on Amazon so I could return the stuff i had gotten.
I did get a gift card for the total finally!!!!!!!
I felt sorry for everyone who came in to return things that day, cause as I went by after getting groceries she had the manager over arguing about a return with an older gentleman in a wheelchair.
