Does use year matter if you don't know when you will be using your points? I understand most things about DVC but use year.:confused3 I know that is when I would get my points but I lost at what month I would want if any.

I don't plan on vacationing the same time each year... I love seeing the parks at all times of the year.

UY does not matter, for some it may. Generally speaking if you travel the same time every year than a UY just before your travel would be best. You are aparrently like me, you want to travel whenever, no set month. In this case UY doesn't matter one bit. Its all in how you plan, and try not to cancel a reservations after your banking deadline.:surfweb:

Still being relatively new to DVC, do the new banking rules influence your opinion on choosing a UY? How about trading out through concierge or II? I'm sure that would be totally dependent on when you travel, but seeing how some people feel there are disadvantages to certain UYs based on the new rules, I thought your thoughts/opinions may help the OP narrow down a time.

For our travel habits (DH is a teacher and tied to the school calendar year), I wished we had picked a different UY. August forces us to travel by July 31 if points are going to expire. Had we picked a December or February UY, we could have used those points to travel in early August and possibly December as well. It works out fine for us, but just something I'd change if I could.

Best of luck choosing a UY! :goodvibes

IMO UY does matter but it matter more for some that others. For one that plans ahead and travels at different times of the year it matters little or not at all. For the rest it does matter, a lot in some cases. The more likely you are to have a cancellation, esp last minute, the more it matters.

Use year does matter depending on when you vacation. I have a Dec. use year. Friends & I spend a week the end of Oct. and I'm usually using some borrowed points. If something were to happen in Sept. and I had to cancel I'd have two problems - I'm past my banking window for any current year points plus borrowed points can't be put back in their original year. I'd have to use those points before Nov. 30. Chances are if I have a problem in Sept., I could have the same problem in Oct. or Nov.

This kind of happened to me this past year. I had some surgery and ended up taking more vacation time than I thought. I had reservations for both the end of Oct. and the first week of Dec. I had to make a choice - go in Oct. or go in Dec. I chose Dec. I convinced my friends to go in Oct. anyway and other mutual friends joined them in the BWV 2BR. I know I could have rented the reservation out, but didn't want the hassle.

So use year does matter in some instances.
