Does Thompson have a chance?

I thought in June he had a huge chance but he has landed with a loud thud. The man is beyond boring, let alone I think he's too socially conservative after we've had Bush for 8 years. I think it will be Hillary vs. Guiliani. Guiliani will pick someone a bit more socially conservative than him to appeal to the Christian right base.

That's how I'm handicapping it too, Tim. I think Rudy will go hard right for his VP to appease the religious right. Hillary will probably go more moderate in her choice for VP, most likely a white male-I'm sorry to say that but I think it's true. I think she'll have to do that so she doesn't lose the people who are afraid of the scary brown people like Obama and Richardson and the fact that she is a  woman.

What he said... Although anything is possible because the GOP is scattered over a pretty wide platform right now, I'd be surprised if Thompson at this point mounted much of a threat. All that squawking, and then he comes out and lays an egg. :sad2: I would still possibly vote for the guy, but I think a couple more likely scenarios may come to pass:
1) As Tim said, Guiliani somehow wins nomination by putting someone like Brownback or Huckabee on the ticket.
2) McCain makes the biggest comeback since -well, the Colorado Rockies.

ETA: Note that I didn't even mnetion Romney. I think he has no shot. The vast majority of us out here, for the life of us, can't tell the difference between John Kerry and Mitt Romney.

I really had hopes for Thompson and I will admit, I like a lot of his views. I am, however, really disappointed in his "fire". He just kind of seems like he really could care less. It is to bad.

:lmao: -- from a scary brown woman....:thumbsup2

I agree with you Fits... btw, I can't find a time that I didn't...:confused3

As for Thompson I thought he was going to be the second coming. I've LOVED him forever (I have a THING for voices) as an actor and actually thought about hearing him out...

Unfortunately, he gives me the feeling that his backers are more into this than HE is.

Fits, do you really think that's a wide number of people? Southern steretypes aside, I think we're down to a pretty slender voting demographic in those terms.

He had a golden opportunity, because nobody was too thrilled with the existing field and he just didn't live up to it. Mom and Dad said that they were talking to folks that heard him speak when he was in The Villages and they said it was like watching grass grow-and these were die hard Republicans!!

I think he'll be back on L&O next season.

Thompson is the Manny Ramirez of politics. :lmao:

I think Thompson is way too conservative for a lot of Republicans.

I wish that Rudy and Obama were running together on an Independent ticket. They temper each other well--ones weaknesses are the others strengths--and I think might have a decent chance on a ticket together.

I'd love to think that it isn't-but I'm afraid that it is. If I'm afraid that it is, you can bet Hillary's people are too. I'm sure they're polling every possible combination, and hopefully I'll turn out to be wrong. I like Obama a lot, but I agree with many that he needs some seasoning-a VP job would allow him to get that. I like Richardson as well and I think he'd be an asset to the ticket.

I've watched too many episodes of the West Wing not to believe that these campaigns aren't choreographed with more concentration than Swan Lake.

I think Rudy will go with Huckabee, just based on what I've seen so far.

Thompson came into the fray with a wimper and really did nothing to set himself apart in the first debate. He was the Republican's flavor of the month like Obama was for the Democrats when he was hinting about running. The results for both did not match the anticipation. Now it looks like Gulliani in 2008.

I am a Democrat but I really like Fred...he reminds me of my dad in looks, voice and values (my dad was republican)
I don't think that i have heard enough of his plans to know if I can vote for him. I need to hear more debates.

He's not doing nearly enough bible thumping to engage the Republican base. Maybe if he gets born-again he might have a shot.

Yeah, and then they can write their autobiography and call it "War and Peace"
*sigh*

No. He has a piece of paper in his pocket and he won't tell me what it says. He also had chinese food last week.

He should not be President.

I'm still watching Thompson to see if I like him.

If it comes down to Rudy vs. Hillary I have nobody worth voting for so I'd probably make some good use of election day and spend it at Epcot.

Since this thread started I figured a perfect job for him. He could sit in an armchair by a fireplace on the weekend and introduce classic movies like Moby Dick and Mysterious Island. Kinda like this guy used to do at WGN:
