Man goes into local grocery store Starbucks stand (in which his close friend happens to be the cashier) purchases coffee for $1.05 pays w/ bank card and gets $100 cash back. :confused3

6 Hours later ~ same man same coffee shop ~ makes purchase for $1.05 and gets another $80 cash back.

Next day ~ 3 more stops at the coffee shop with another $250 in cash back. :earseek:

So my Ex had his bank statement sent to my house (without my knowledge) .....I've been getting a new Overdraft letter each day....looks like he's running around town causing some trouble. Why in the world would they approve these transactions when his beginning balance was TEN BUCKS!

they don't care as long as they get their money

Sounds really suspicious to me. Are you sure this is what happened? Most establishments who offer cash back on debit purchases place a pretty low limit on what you can get back - like $50.

Yes, the post seems suspicious. Stores do not give that much cash back.

I'm confused.... your ex is the man doing this? Why is his bank statement going to your house. :confused3 I'm lost.

I'm a bit lost here too....
BUT I'm shocked that Starbucks would give ANY cash back, places like that don't handle enough cash to give $ back (compared to grocery stores) & it's usually never an option....if you're curious just call the Starbucks & ask them if there is a limit on cash back.

YES, it would be very suspicious & everywhere I've ever worked in retail you were NOT allowed to check out someone you knew or you could be fired & while working @ Walmart( a few years back) I saw 2 get fired for this ---yes they got them on other charges thatn JUST ringing up each other - but they were watched VERY VERY closely 'cause they were friends & then eventually caught for stealing....

This will get traced and they will get caught I hope this is why we are paying so much in interest and fees for back and card use.

I knew of someone doing the same thing they do a manuel ring instead of over the phone thats how it goes through at the time .They also do this kind of thing with stole cards and numbers .

Yes ~ My Ex

I imagine he didn't want to give them his real address? I called the bank this morning and informed them that he is not at this address ~ but there's not much else I can do.

I would definitely do more, just to protect myself! :earseek: If he used your address for that, he may have your name involved in his scamming. Immediatley check your credit reports - make sure there is nothing new in your name. Follow up to the bank in writing that it is not his address, and return the mail from them - do not open it!
I would also contact your attorney and see if he or she suggests that you contact the police - bank fraud is very serious, and you don't want to be inadvertantly drawn into it.

I'm a bit surprised too.
I'm hoping this catches up with them soon ~ I'm thinking the cashier-friend could be involved....seems more than coincidence.

Thanks for the advice.
I do keep up on my credit report frequently so I'll keep an eye on it.
The bank assured me that my name was not on or associated to this account in anyway. I never thought to follow up in writing ~ I'll do that now.

I get 100.00 back every time I go food shopping..I food shop then get my spending money for hte week at the same time..so they do give that much back.

:confused3 Did you open the bank statement? Opening up mail that is not yours is illegal, even if it belongs to an ex-spouse. :confused3

Well, if he's got overdraft protection, then he can take out more than the $10 beginning balance, even if it's via cash and not because of a check being cashed or whatnot.

Though the rest does sound suspicious.

Yes I did open the first batch.
My son has the same name as his father ~ I couldn't tell by the envelope what it was....once I knew what it was, I wanted to make sure we were in NO WAY associated to this. For all I know he could've used my sons SSN to open this account.

The next batch is sitting at home unopened ~ to be returned to the bank.

Sounds like this is a Starbucks associated with a target. They have the ability to allow larger dollar amounts. You might want to let the store manager know something suspicious might be happening, but if the tills are balancing, then there's not much you can do, unfortunately.
