Does this make sense? upgrade to deluxe

We will be on free dining for 5 nights. For about $600 more (3 adults, 2 children, and one 2 year old who is free), we could upgrade to deluxe dining.

I am looking into doing this, because we want to dine at CRT and Cali Grill...those 2 alone would be close to $500. Then, I could also add in HDDR and Cape May breakfast the day of check out (maybe even a lunch that day) and then it will all be paid for easily.

I do understand the theory that deluxe dining is too much food, but if we're only paying the upgrade price it seems to be a good deal.

I would be going into it knowing not to stuff my face with apps and desserts at every meal...;)

I should add that DH likes a sit down breakfast, and we do lots of character meals.

Go for it. We have always done deluxe and often skip dessert, order a light appetizer, etc. When the kids are "Disney adults", the math may not work any more for us, but for now, it's great. Enjoy!

Quite honestly I don't subscribe to the "too much food" thing. We eat three meals a day at home so it's only rational to think we'll want three when we're @ Disney and walking so much each day! It's a lot of planning but it's fun! I also like the prepaid aspect of it!

If you're going to prefer TS to QS, and you can burn at least 80% of the credits at TS locations, then go for it. It already seems that you're slanting that way anyway :p and since you want HDDR, plus the other 2 would almost equal the amount to upgrade, it seems to make perfect sence.

DxDDP is a lot of food. While typical people will eat 3 meals a day (I'm far from typical on that front :p at my 1, maybe 1 1/2), the portion sizes will normally be a bit smaller and they're not likely to eat 3 courses at both lunch and dinner. However, there are ways to mitigate the effects as well.

First, spread the meals out more than normal. An 8am breakfast, 1-2pm lunch, and 8-9pm dinner should work nicely for those 3 meal days. Alternatively, a normal (8-10am) breakfast and a 2 TS dinner @ ~5-7pm also works out well. Lastly (and what I tend to do since I'm not big into breakfast), an 11-11:30am lunch and 6-8pm dinner splits it up decently as well.

Also, don't feel you have to eat every entitlement for every meal. If you don't want dessert, skip it. You can skip all desserts on DxDDP and still come out ahead if you're using nearly all of your credits.

Thanks for asking this question...I'm in the same boat...hoping they offer free dining in early feb that we can upgrade to deluxe. With two toddlers eating for "free" I was hoping this plan would make the most sense. Similar to you, we plan to do character meals and also following wdw we will be heading to the beach so I was thinking we could just load up with any leftover snack credits that way.
