DD was registered for a community ed class today that is cancelled because of the weather. Okay, that is understandable and probably a good thing since I am not going to be getting us out of the house/driveway today anyway.

However, when they called they said it is rescheduled for next TUESDAY. Or my other option if that didn't work was to go to one tomorrow(note, that is also a Tuesday.) If neither of these classes work for me, I am basically just out of luck and they will not refund my money. I paid $27 for this class which to me is fairly pricey for a one day class(there were a lot of materials.) Now, if they had rescheduled for another Monday and we couldn't do it, I could even understand, but they didn't! I never would have registered her for a Tuesday class because she already has gymnastics and piano. In fact, her piano lesson falls right in the middle of when they scheduled this class for.

I just think it is totally wrong that they are claiming they are offerring a resched of the class when they are not even keeping the day consistent. I asked to talk to someone in charge and was given her voice mail and haven't been called back in 5 hours. I will be following up.

I am sick today and maybe overreacting, but this just seems wrong to me.

I understand that the weather is not thier fault, but I think they should give you your money back if you can't make the reschedule date. Just keep going up the ladder until you get what you want.

ETA: or at the very least give you a credit if that's acceptable to you.

I agree...I would be upset to and demand a credit.

I had something similar happen....the boys and girls club where I live requires a joining fee in addition to the class fees.

Well, I paid the joining fee so my kids could take this one class. Well, they cancelled the class, so, now I don't get my joining fee of $60 for both kids back.
The joining fee is nonrefundable.

I work in a dept similar to that and Im sure that there is a disclaimer about having to reschedule and no refunds after a specific date. Instead of a refund ask if you can have a credit to your account for a future class. If they do not agree to that then ask if the monies can be transfered to another class for the semester (or whateve time frame that is used). If all that fails, then ask to speak with the dept head and explain your situation.

It makes sense to me because Community Ed classes are usually scheduled months in advance. I'd assume next Monday is already booked with something else. Perhaps Tuesdays are what's available for a classroom or the teacher is free that day.
I'd do as other posters have suggested and explain your situation and ask for credit toward another class.

Well, I am still waiting for a call back. At this point I will be calling tomorrow to talk to this supervisor again. As I said, I am understanding of the policy and that it makes sense if they rescedule the class on the same day of the week. I understand that it may not work out for their space schedule or for the instructor, but honestly that is not my problem. I don't think it's fair for them to say take this class on a different day of the week or you lose your $27.

I know all about having to resched etc as I actually am an instructor for adults. I work for a different organization but on the rare occassions we have to cancel, the people are offerred to come at the new time OR a refund or credit. I asked about the credit too and was told no. No credit, no refund, just come Tuesday or you are out of luck.

Well, I spoke to Community Ed again today as the original woman never called me back and my second message to her went unheeded as well. I am getting a refund of the entire class fee to my credit card that I paid with. Apparently they heard from several parents that day that were not at all happy and decided they better take a look at that refund policy. I gathered from the woman I spoke to today that many of them were not nearly as nice as I had been.
