Does this make sense? ECV question

I have used a scooter from Golds Mobility for my last two trips to WDW. I can walk, but some days are better than others. Those stays were at the Swan.

My next trip is a quick one--3 1/2 days, no park hoppers, staying at the Pop. I'm thinking of renting a scooter at the park if I need one. First, I'm not sure I will need a scooter. Second, we will be using the skyliner to get to 2 parks, and I have read it can take a while if you are using an ECV. We (my adult nephew is my travel partner) are going to hit the parks right at open. So getting a scooter if I think I need one that day won't be a problem.

Am I missing something? Does this plan make sense?

We've stayed at Pop Century with a person using a mobility device and never had to wait - they have a dedicated loop for those who need more time getting on, and then they feed the gondola into the flow.

Will you always know if you need a scooter first thing in the morning? If it turns out you need one later on, they might not have any.

Just know that if you enter EPCOT through the International Gate, there are few ECV's available. We were told they never anticipated increasing availability due to the Skyliner AND have no storage for extra ECV's. If you are there for rope drop you should be okay (always worked for us) and your ECV can be held for you if you want to return later on.

It's a mixed bag. Off site scooter rental is cheaper. There's no worry about having a scooter available always. The downside as you mentioned is getting on and off Disney transportation.

I feel I have more energy using an offsite rental because I have it at the resort, too.

It does take time everyday to rent a scooter at the park. You have to wait in line and have your turn. At park opening there are others renting a wheelchair or stroller or scooter.

That makes me feel a little bit better about renting off site. I was watching videos, and one person said it took 45 minutes to get on the skyliner when there were a few scooters ahead of them. That would not be good.

Can I add another question? Our light home is at 545 pm. We plan on using Lyft/Uber. What is the latest time I should have them meet me at Pop to pick up the scooter? Is 3 pm too late?

Scooter Bug is Disney's approved off site scooter rental company. If you use them you don't have to have a pick up or drop off time with them. You leave the scooter with Disney.

If you use any other scooter vendor then I think you need to call them direct about what is a safe time for drop off of the scooter. Let them know your flight time. You have to have time to get to the airport and check in, too. Honestly, I think a 3 pm drop off time is too late with any other rental company.

Maybe not? Knowing personally that Gold Mobility has met people at 4:30, even 4:45 pm in the recent past, 3:00 pm is probably not too late at all.

I do agree it's a great idea to call any rental vendor you are using directly with questions like that; their hours of operation and/or policies can (and do sometimes) change, and we are not always the first to hear about it here!

The endpoints for the Skyliner are wonderful. I actually think it was faster with a chair leaving Epcot.

It's the midpoint, Riviera, that was tough, because they have to send an empty car down and stop the line. You will have no problem from Pop.
