Does this happen to anyone else?

Let me start by saying the I have never been to Disney. I am in the planning process for not one but two Disney trips. I discovered the Disboards over a year ago while doing research for the trips.

While speaking with a family friend who takes 1 or 2 Disney vacations a year I discovered something. I know more about Disney world than she does. After that I asked a few more friends and family who have been for any advice on planning. Again, I felt like I had more information than they did.

I blame the Disboards. Has this ever happened to anyone else? What did you say/do? I keep my mouth shut and suggest they check out the Disboards.

If I was you, I'd limit my 'Disney knowledge' bragging for a little while longer . You have the equivalent of a year or so "book learnin' ." You may know SOME facts that they don't know. And these could be things your friends had no interest or need to know. But they have something you don't have, and won't for some time. Experience. Multiple trips with time actually spent in the parks. It's really amazing how folks can have fabulous Disney trips without knowing a lot of 'things'.

Is the Dis a valuable tool for learning about all facets of a WDW vacation? Unquestionably. But here's the thing. I had nearly 20 trips since 1975 under my belt before I even knew the Dis existed. I've been checking out the Dis a lot since then. The posters who I tend to value for their knowledge (and not just their capacity to spout facts) are the ones with the most experience as actual visitors.

Hang in there and enjoy the learning process. You'll find that it will change a lot once you've experienced a trip for yourself.

I completely agree with you. My original post didn't come across the way I wanted it. I hope it didn't sound condescending. I know that I have barely scratched the surface of Disney.
I have never offered anyone any advice about Disney beyond "have you checked out the Disboards?" Nor have I ever made them feel like I know more than they do.

I feel awkward about this and just wanted some advice about it. Again, I'm sorry if the OP came out wrong.

Quite often but literally not just Disney... I'm a crazy-nut planning, research person.

When I buy a washing machine it looks like a spur of the moment thing, while its really 3months in the make to research, decide, shop for the best deal, etc., and the list goes ON!

So typically if I know something about a subject it's because I'm super strange and have put countless hours into it!!!

That's Okay. Writing on a forum isn't nearly the same as discussing face to face. I would probably do what you did. Mention that you found a lot of great information on the DISboards and recommend they check it out before their next trip. And just leave it at that.

Oddly enough, within the past year I've suddenly stumbled onto OTHER people referring ME to the Disboards! If only they knew my nightly addiction.... :rotfl:

But yes, I agree with Minnie Mum.
