We have a GTY 11A that we booked at the end of January, 2018

I have been making payments, and last week after I paid $1900, my balance was $3225.45.

Tonight I paid $1500 and my new balance is $1695.41. As you can see, the cents are off since I paid an even $ amount. I crunched the numbers and came up with a difference of $30.04. I could not find where the discrepancy was...So I went back to look at my original confirmation e-mail from January. The cruise total for the 4 of us was $5802.24. I looked at the latest confirmation after it accepted my most recent payment and it says cruise total is $5772.20. I subtracted the new total from the original total and it equals the $30.04.

As recently as today my balance was the $3225.45. So this price difference just happened this evening at some point.

I have another stateroom CAT 5B booked for my DD, sister and niece. That price has not changed.

I have never had this happen. Does Disney drop the price of a confirmed reservation on occasions? Or might this be a fluke?

I had my cost go down twice, but it was the port fees that changed. First, because we weren't going to Tortola (I think) and second was another change, possibly in the cost of the port fees in that time. It was a nice bonus, except it also meant my Costco cash card reward was lower by about as much, so I didn't get as much benefit as I'd hoped.

Interesting that your sister's room cost didn't change, though. Maybe it's a GTY thing?

I just checked and that's what it is, the port fees and taxes. Originally $734.24 ($183.56pp). And now it is $704.20. Yet the port fees and taxes are still $183.56pp in the other stateroom. I wonder why? This is a cruise out of NYC with just 2 stops. Castaway Cay and Port Canaveral.

The port fees can and often do go down. You typically will not receive detailed notification other than a new confirmation emailed to you. You have to be observant to notice the slight price decrease.

This happens often. The most important thing to remember is if you use a gift card to pay you need to remember, the refund will go back to your gift card. So you may actually throw the gift card away that has money on it. 15 cruises for me and I’ve always got a refund of port fees around final payment time.

I've only had the port fees reduced twice. And both times it was after PIF date. So the first time, I noticed a refund on my cc but I didn't know what it was for so I contacted DCL. I wanted to make sure there wasn't an issue with my reservation. They said that the port fees were reduced.

Thanks for posting this!!! I always pay part of our cruises with gift cards and didn't know this!! I'll make sure I check from now on to see if the price of our cruise ever changes.

I know, can you imagine how many folks don’t realize this and never go back to check their old gift cards! We got a big lesson last year when we were on a canceled cruise from hurricane Irma. Dcl refunded my daughter’s portion of our cruise to every gift card she used. She had combined them at least, but it was a pain trying to sort it all out. After that we got better organized.
