Does this happen regularly on VMK?

My daughter was wandering around town square after school yesterday.

Her trade window popped up, so she called me over as I have instructed her to do.

The person doesn't talk, just keeps putting pieces of a river ride in the trade window.

So, I type to her: "Is there something you are looking for?"

She replies "Give me furniture"

Me: "What makes you think I want river ride?"

Her: "Give me furniture or I will report"

At this point I am annoyed, so I say to her (in however you could say this on VMK) "I am not a girl and I have copied everything you just said. Do not try this with me or anyone else".

At this point she disappeared. I did, in fact, report her but who knows if that will do anything.

Can you imagine if she is scaring people into giving her things by saying she will report them? I am worried that a child might be worried about this kind of thing and give this person stuff.

Anyway, just wanted to share...

Unfortunatly yes this does happen a lot and there is no way of stopping it except to ignore the people and report them. You could have exited the trade window while you were watching your daughter and left the room immediatly. But if the scammer remembered her name he would have reported her. Another way was to teach your daughter to refuse trades unless someone asks her and she asks what do you want to trade for?

I put it in my signiture that if they ask without talking to me first i ignore them and that is the end of it.

Since i do not know how old your daughter is i do not know how you could teach this to her. You could always tell her she can not trade but that takes some of the fun out of it for her

I always make sure to ask what they are wanting before accepting a trade request. Putting stuff in your signature doesn't really help much. I still get lots of trade request for my ears even tho my signature says they're not for trade. I also have ask before trade in my sig and it's usually ignored.

Unfortunately, threatening people is what happens on occasion. I always say that I took a picture of the threat and will report the person. They usually then say "sorry, I was joking". But I don't hesitate in reporting these kinds of threats for just the reason you brought up. It's nothing but bullying and I don't abide by it. I'm very happy that your daughter has a loving and watchful mother.
Now if only more kids did.

This does happen when someone does not have alot of stuff they think if they threaten to report unless they get what they want. Most of them do not know VMK Looks at trade records so they will be the only one band. Sigh If only no one was like that.

You want to know what is even more disturbing is the fact if you in deed do give them furinture, they ask to become your friend!! this has happened to me many times, and i am SHOCKED they actually do that!! No one has ever reported me and those who I have had problems with, I try to settle it and become their friend .

Even if they do report you, the VMK staff will review the log and will see what is going on.
