does this fanstamic viewing strategy still work?

Found this tip on the secrets thread, but it is dated from 2006. Is it still valid?

You can get a GREAT spot for fantasmic showing up about 20 minutes before showtime. Head to the center of the Rivers of America and stand behind the tower that is not lifted off the ground (there are three total, you will see the ones on the left and right in the air and the center one on the ground). No one stands there because they think it will block their view. Well, about ten minutes before showtime, that tower lifts up giving you the perfect view right in the center of the river. Everyone runs to get a spot here after the tower goes up. Just be sure to get there BEFORE it rises and you will be shocked at how great the view is.

If I remember Hydroguy posted recently about the "Tower Trick." I would think since the towers have not moved it should work, but I would think it may depend on when you are going.

All right... "Old Man"??? Are you sure? Somehow I don't think so!

I'll keep an eye out for you. I'll be the one with a DH, and 2 kids that will look like they are melting. (from Wisconsin and not used to the heat! In fact DS and I joined the polar bear club this year, so the summer heat is likely to melt them. I on the other hand will be the typical DIS'er with a Disney Commando style look upon her face... ridemax plans in one hand, Fast passes in the other, with a lime green Mickey Head attached to her bag.

I think it would work except for the 20 minutes before part. When we were there last week, they announced that the seating area was full for Fantasmic (the 9pm showing) almost an hour before it started. We found a great spot, even though we had to stand a while saving it. Right along the railing that goes over the POTC. I stood from about 7pm on, but it was a great spot for viewing.
