Does the TIW card holder have to be there?

We have family that live in FL and are annual pass holders. If they were to get a TIW card, would they have to be there with us in order for us to use it? Is there a name on the card? Do they check the ID of the person using the card?

Yes, the card holder needs to be present. Name is on the card and they do check I believe. A manager has to approve every TiW transaction but I've noticed many servers looking down at the cards....I imagine to make sure the name on the card matches the credit card or room key. Some people have reported needing to present their id as well.

I had to present my ID when I used my card last June.

I was asked for ID with my card at many of the meals (not all, but morethan half) on my trip in October.

We've never been asked for ID at TS restaurants but last month I was asked for ID at the ASMU food court. I dug it out of my wallet and gave it to her and she checked it very carefully making sure the picture was mine and matched my room key name. Then, she forgot to apply the discount!

So, yes, the card holder really needs to be there.

Sometimes they check IDs, sometimes they don't, but they check enough to say that yes, the cardholder needs to be in the party.

Not only does the cardholder need to be present, they need to be the one paying for the meal. We always divie up the bill later; but as I am the cardholder I pay.

Yep - what Chedstro said!

Four of us ate at Le Cellier last September, and asked for separate checks up front, since we were each paying by credit card (or, in the case of Miss "I'm not going to spend more than X dollars this entire week", a Disney Gift Card ;)); only one of us has the TIW. Our server came back and explained that he could only give the discount to that person - which we already knew, and which didn't change the way we each chose to pay

I have to disagree. The cardholder does have to be dining with the party, but does not have to be the one paying. My husband is the cardholder and at any given time someone in our party is picking up the tab. Heck, we have even used our TIW card for other diners in our party when we are on the DDP and they are not. We don't try to hide it. We ask the server if we can get the discount for our friend and they have always said yes. As far as the wording goes, it just says the cardholder must be dining with the party. We have been checked for ID many times at the value resort/food courts. We are not checked at the TS resorts, but that is probably because the last name on the room card always matches the last name on the TIW card. We've been cardholders for over 3 years now and have used it 100s of times. This is a great perk and we get ALOT of use out of it. As mentioned about separate checks, I agree, it is only offered on one check which has never been a problem for us.

You are only permitted to have one check discounted.

The cardholder must be present.

The cardholder does not have to be the one to pay the check.

If one (or more) are on DDP you can have any non-DDP items (such as alcoholic beverages) on a separate check, along with people not on DDP, and that second bill can have the discount applied.
