Does the GF room decor clash?

I've been looking at pictures of the Grand Floridian rooms to get myself (more) excited about my October trip.

but, now I am a little hesitant.

To me the rooms seem a "overdone" - the curtains, bedspreads, carpets, etc are all different colours and patterns.

I know that disney rooms don't always photograph well (the BWI rooms were lovely in person but looked a little off in photos).

Do they look pretty/nice/not gaudy in person?

From the pics i have seen of the GF rooms, they do nothing for me.. seem way to overdone and frilly.. LOL I am sure they are lovely, if that is what you like, but it's not me.
I am more YC/BC/Poly type.. LOL

I think the rooms are beautiful at the GF, but it's all a matter of personal taste. I just looked at some room photos on another site and found them to be pretty representative of the way the rooms look IRL. I do have to say, though, that on our most recent trip to WDW last month (we stayed at the Poly), I was surprised to find the furniture in the lobby of the GF to be looking a bit worn out! That being said, I think the GF is a beautiful resort and I wouldn't hesitate to stay there! I hope you enjoy your stay!!

Stayed there many times, no, they don't clash. Surprisingly, it all comes together. Very soothing, and relaxing. I did not find it "frilly"; just tastefully decorated. Looked more like someone's bedroom rather than just a hotel room. the patterned carpet really does go well with the draperies, and the Alice themed bedspread, or the cameo bedspread.

To me the rooms seem a "overdone" - the curtains, bedspreads, carpets, etc are all different colours and patterns.
Are you looking at the newly renovated room photos? I think the rooms look a bit softer now. I agree, there's a lot of patterns going on in the room, but it somehow works.

Thanks.

I don't even know why I question these things.

I always wanted to stay at the Gf - now I'm doing it and worrying about every little thing!

I have stayed at the GF before and we are staying there again this October, I love the rooms! They are really nice! Several of the buildings should be rennovated and redecorated by the time you go. My friend is there right now with her family and they are staying at a newly rennovated building...I will get the update next week on EVERYTHING!!!! Can't wait to go myself..October...hurry up!

The GF is our favorite resort. It's not overdone or uppity as some think.
We're staying at BWI this Nov. because of F&W Festival otherwise we'd be at GF. You will not be disappointed.

When my parents and I were visiting the Grand Floridian a few weeks ago they had a board displayed by the elevators on the 2nd floor with pictures of what the new rooms would look like. My parents thought it did not look good, where as I thought it was ok.

We stayed at the GF and the poly. I will say I didn't really like the decor of the rooms, seemed old and stuffy to me. Just my thoughts:yay:

I just got back from a GF Disneymoon. I, too, was worried about the GF decor (had originally scheduled AKL, but was moved).

We were fortunate to get a renovated room and the decor was beautiful. We really felt "at home" there, and enjoyed the extra-nice TV and new textiles. I can't speak to the decor of the rooms that haven't been remodeled yet, though. Our experience at the hotel was marvelous, but I know that room quality may vary.

Best of luck to you!:goodvibes

I love the elegant atmosphere of the GF in general, but I feel that the rooms are poorly decorated. The patterns clash, and the furniture isn't good quality, especially when thinking of the $500 a night I pay to sleep there.
I remember before the CR rooms were redecorated, people laughed at the clashing gaudiness of the rooms, but I see the current GF rooms in the same way, just with Victorian patterns instead of bold colors.

Nobody is going to like the decor of every Disney hotel. If you are used to a value resort, maybe any of the deluxe hotels might seem like too much! It's all a matter of taste!

here's a few of my Sago Cay MK View pics.

Personally, I think its very tasteful.

We love the decor, it's actually very soothing and restful, not mention the rooms are pretty spacious too!

I love the rooms at the GF. I know that they are going thru a refurb and they will be different. There are pics of the new rooms on the GF faq thread.

Thanks.

Well, I would look at it like this....you are not buying the place, you are not moving in and you are not taking it home. You are staying there for X amount of nights, so enjoy it for what it is and be happy you have better taste for your own bedroom at home. ;)

Great pics MonoManBlue! Do you happen to remember which floor you were on in Sago Cay? Just trying to get an idea of what the view is from different floors. Thanks!

Not MonoManBlue, but if I had to guess I would say 2nd floor. I also think that it's a zoomed in picture, the castle isn't really that close, but hopefully he can verify that.
