Does the AP go on the magic band?

Hello. I'm thinking of upgrading my Magic Your Way (or whatever the name of the week it's called), from the length of stay (6 days) up to an AP. Now, how would that work on the magic band? I have the hard ticket (purchased about a month ago).... So I anticipate going to guest relations and upgrading it to an AP....but will it go on the Magic Band? If so, what happens if say three months from now I loose the band? How does that work. In other words....will I have to make sure I hold onto the band for the next year?

There is nothing "on" the magic band. It has an id number that is linked to your MDE account. Anytime the band is scanned the reader takes the id number on the band and asks the Disney database system if this band linked to the MDE account can be used for what it s being scanned for. ie: "Does this band have a fastpass linked to it for Space Mtn. at this time?"

The MDE account is where all your information is kept: AP #, FP+. ADRs, etc.

Don't worry about losing the magic band or your AP card. We lost one of our AP cards and just went to a ticket counter with ID and got a new card. Obviously if you lose a magic band you will have to buy a new one. Then you link the new band's id number to your account.

Guest Services will probably scan your magic band a few times while upgrading, and your current band(s) will then work as AP admission.

But make sure they also give you an AP card, as you need to present the AP card to receive some of the (shopping and dining) discounts.

A few weeks or so later, you will also be able to customize a new set of magic bands due to your AP purchase.
