We plan on getting the dining plan for our family when we go. We're booking a 2nd room for my parents with xtra points. My understanding was if they weren't in the same room, they didn't have to get the dining plan if they don't want to, now i'm hearing differently. Anyone know what is accurate?

If the rooms are totally separate bookings with different reservation numbers (e.g. not a 2 bedroom lockoff but a 1 bedroom and a studio booked separately), then both rooms do NOT need to get the dining plan.

Just know that often times a 1BR and studio booked separately, don't add up to the same points as a 2BR.

For example, at AKV a standard view room in Choice season, Sun-Thu:
- 12 Studio
- 25 1BR
- 37 if book both

- 30 2BR

If you were just planning two studios no big deal.

Where are you hearing differently?

A basic rule of thumb is if the points are high it is most likely crowded, march is not busy unless you hit spring break,

My sister & her family & my parents are coming back today. She has dvc already & is a travel agent for disney vacations but wasnt clear on this, she wanted me to double check. We didnt think it was so because it was seperate rooms, but wanted to make sure.
You never know what you're going to hear and it's Disney's BBQ so they can always change the rules though I'm still curious as to where they heard it. Other than the situation noted above related to lockout's, I'm not aware of another circumstance that would force this restrictions as it currently stands. They can restrict the use of the DP credits to those listed in the rooms with the DP which does give you some potential flexibility with multiple rooms for a given family. I often draw thoughts on this subject from the Food n Fun plan of the 90's and IIRC the rules there at one time would have allowed them to require the plan for your entire stay at the world across resorts (I think) and across different unit types (I'm sure) but I'm not aware they ever followed through on these requirement.

I also continue to marvel at the catch 22 they create for the DP, esp as it pertains to DVC. The requirement to add the plan 48 hours ahead AND to have everyone on it creates both dilemma's that are more likely to come into play for DVC guests and a higher potential for abuse.
