Does the $20 trick work at Disney Resorts?

I first tried it in Las Vegas after my brother filled me in on it. It got me a much bigger room overlooking the pool and 2 buffet coupons for my wife and me. Has anyone tried it at Disney? If so, what were the results?

I imagine it would be slipping the cast member who is checking you in $20 just to see if he can upgrade you.

Nope, front desk CMs are not allowed to accept gratuities. Ain't nobody gonna risk their job for 20 bucks.

As a practical matter, complimentary upgrades are tightly controlled at Disney resorts. The great majority are done by the room assigner in advance of your arrival, and they're done to serve the resort's operational needs. On the less-common occasion that the front desk has the ability to upgrade a guest, we've been told by a number of current and former CMs that they much prefer to surprise guests, and are much less likely to give free upgrades to those who ask outright about getting upgraded for free.

Are you paying one night’s parking fee?

Edit: Whiff, swing and a miss

I have never heard of people getting free meals at Disney not even as a surprise compliment, sure room upgrades (rare) and maybe some unlimited 1 day fast passes, and some ice cream from DVC after sales tour, but full on meals? never. If someone has please share.

The fact that this is not done at Disney is one of the few things that sets it apart.
They give upgrades but to those that DON'T ask way more often than to those that do. Not to mention, the increase of people asking is what has made them cut back on a lot of the little things they used to do. Asking, expecting, ruining it for all.

Want an upgrade, pay for it the right way.

Who was talking about free meals?

Yeah, no $20 trick at Disney. Agree too that upgrades seem to be by the room assigner. I also think length of stay makes a big difference. Twice now I changes my plans to add an extra day and just booked a single night in front of the normal package. Both times (BC and WL) I was upgraded to club level for that single night. No way that would have happened for the normal package!

Agree with everyone else. Bribery does not work at Disney.

Alright, I didn’t mean to get everyone all triggered, I was just asking is all. If you google the concept, you’ll see that it’s not an uncommon practice. Many desk clerks have a very wide discretion when it comes to what a customer gets assigned. If a twenty (which if you look it up, you’ll find is the standard) gets the ball rolling, it’s well worth it.

Disney doesn’t do that. Fine...that’s all you had to say. You don’t have to get hot about it.

Not a free meal, but I was randomly given a free citrus swirl when I went up to the window to get free ice water... but I think this was strategic because I had never had one before and now I have to buy one on every trip hahaha
