I almost posted this on Budget, then figured it would be more targeted here since there are a lot of SW flyers. Since we are on SW a lot now (at least twice a month), we are thinking about getting their Visa. But they have a $59 annual fee, and I am NOT used to paying for charge cards! I know a lot of places will waive it if you call and request that or tell them you are cancelling. Does SW do that?

We've asked twice; and both times were told they don't do that. I guess its possible the change to Chase will have them taking another look at it. Just ask. The worst they can say is no.
Besides, it's fairly reasonable when compared to the number of Rapid Reward tickets we get each year.
Then again, the number of Rapid Reward awards will slow down too since SWA dropped the bonus for on line booking. :smooth:

I find that cards that give you miles and "gifts" tend to be harder to get the fee waived on.

I have had the SW Visa since the fee was not material and the free tickets more then made up for it.

I know that about a year ago I got an offer to get the Platinum SW Visa with no fee. Don't know if that is still out there and it was only for the first year. (After that the fee was VERY high!)

How does the SW Visa work....I know with other airline cards it is a $1/1mile exchange, but since SW uses segments vs miles....how do they exchange for tickets??

for every $1200 charged your Rapid Rewards account gets 1 credit. 16 credits and you have a free flight.

if all 16 credit come from charges:

compared to a 1% return card, like Disney VISA you will get a free flight for $192.

compared to Amex Blue $223

The advantage of the free SW flight is that you can grab the last seat on a plane regardless of price. My wife and I are using our free flight to fly from PVD to SNA to visit DL. Our flights, the last time I checked, were about $1000 each if you had to pay out of pocket. SW rules in my book.

Some of the airlines, not SW, have a credit card without an annual fee BUT they credit miles at about half the rate as with the cards with the annual fee.
