Does Spectro and/or FITS get cancelled for rain?

I was overjoyed to see that May 1 will have SpectroMagic and Fantasy in the Sky. I thought we would miss out because of grad nights. This morning I checked the 10-day forecast and Thursdays weather is Thunderstorms, 60% chance of rain. Last year we waited 1 1/2 hours at Fantasmic to have it cancelled because of impending thunderstorms. Does anyone know the likelihood of Spectro or FITS being cancelled for rain? I know that Fantasmic is greatly affected by the weather, unlike a parade, but I sure wouldn't want to be Tinkerbell flying from the castle during a lightning storm! I know the 10-day forecasts are rarely correct, but I would be really sad to get my hopes up and then have it cancelled. If they do cancel, do they reschedule for the next day?

We were there in Sept and it rained hard most of the day-they kept delaying Spectro and when they finally did have it some of the floats were empty. Mostly the ones that would have had the princesses etc. on them. Otherwise, it was the same parade. We were just a little disappointed but I'm sure there is a major slip and fall factor there. Cinderella and Prince Chariming were in the carriage though. Can't give you an answere on the FIS because they weren't scheduled for that evening. Have a great trip.

Can't advise you on Spectro but FITS was going in the rain when we were there, no Tink didn't fly. She doesn't fly if it's raining, windy, t-storms in the area or if she's a bit over the weight limit. This is from Guest Relations at MK

Yes, Spectro does gets cancelled because of rain. :( This happened to us in 1998. It was the day that we flew in and we made a point of going to the parks that day since it was the only day of our vacation that Spectro was going to run.

It began to rain early - a gentle rain - it was not pouring - in the evening and did not stop. They postponed and postponed and the finally cancelled Spectro for the night. We were so disappointed. :( I do recall that the rain DID stop and they have the fireworks at the end of the night. Nice - but we could see the fireworks any night that we are at the MK.

In February, when we were there, there was only one Spectro scheduled for the week...well, in true Florida fashion, it was raining right up to the time Spectro was supposed to run. They announced that it was delayed, and they would try to run it when the weather allowed for it. The clouds were pretty dark and it was still sprinkling. Then, all the sudden, they came back on and said it was cancelled. We were all disappointed, but then we found out why. Just from the time it took to walk from the main entrance to the monorail, it started to POUR, and there was lightning and thunder all around. They must have seen the storm on the radar...so, all that to answer, YES, Spectro can be cancelled during bad weather. And they didn't run another one to make up for it, either! But that's okay, we still had a great time.

That happened when I took my niece in 1999. A few minutes before it was supposed to start it started thundering and lightning with pouring rain. Luckily we were by Expo Hall and ran up onto the porch. They waited about 30 minutes and then cancelled it. FITS still was shown, I'm not sure about Tink since we were up in Town Square. Luckily it was a Friday night and it was also scheduled for Saturday, so we went for the second run on Saturday. Now that I think about it, it was the first time I saw MSEP, it wasn't Spectro.

Thanks for your replies, everyone. I will keep my fingers crossed. 10 day forecasts usually only have a 50/50 chance of being right anyway.

Christina78, I am hoping for no rain also. We rearranged our schedule to fit Spectro in and really hope it does not rain. Where did you get your weather report from?

In 1999, we had scheduled our viewing of Spectro (maybe it was MSEP ?? ) for our last Saturday night . . . figured it was a good way to end our trip.

Well, the skies opened and it poured. They kept postponing and postponing . . until they finally just had to call it off. We were so disappointed, so now we plan to see Spectro early in our trip. If we're rained out, we'll still have another opportunity.

It got canceled once when we were in the MK because of rain. It's that whole electricity & water thing.

LAWalz23 - I checked the 10-day Forecast for Orlando on weather.com this morning and it said thunderstorms, 60% chance of rain. I checked it again 5 minutes ago and it says partly cloudly, 30% chance of rain. So I'm not going to worry until I'm at WDW! By the way, the weather looks great so far for next week! Let's all keep our fingers crossed for good weather May 1!
