Does Southwest show movies on long flights?

This will be our first time flying with Southwest. I know they are supposed to be "no frills" so I wondered if they show movies like we're used to with Delta.

Thanks!

Southwest's planes are not equipped with TV screens like Delta, so no.

You'll have to bring you own entertainment. We usually buy puzzle/game books for the kids and put a few of their action figures in our carry on.

I believe I just read that Southwest will now be offering the ability to "rent" movies, if you have your own laptop. Maybe check the Southwest website to see if it's mentioned there. Doesn't help me as I don't have a laptop, and even if I did, it wouldn't be worth lugging it to WDW just to watch a movie on the plane.

You can rent portable DVD players for flights... www.inmotionpictures.com is where I did it. They have pickup and drop off locations in a bunch of airports... or, you can have it shipped to you.

Also, portable DVD players are starting to get pretty cheap these days. I've seen some at Best Buy for $150 or so.

Delta shows movies? We are flying Delta for the first time on our next trip. This ought to be very interesting. :wave2:

Last time I flew Delta (last August) they showed the news or something like that. You had to buy or rent earphones in order to actually hear the show.

As for SWA, the flight attendants will also usually give an activity book to the kids, but it's generally not enough to amuse them for the whole trip. We do the portable DVD. We are then able to plug the portable DVD into our tv at the resort.

Just FYI, any set of small headphones that you have around (such as for a Walkman, etc.) will work in the jack on the aircraft seat, you don't need to pay if you bring your own, at least when the screens are the collective version. I always carry a spare set of earbuds with me when I fly.

Even with your own 'phones, you do still have to pay when the setup is with PPV individual screens, such as on Frontier, where the individual screens must be activated by the FA or with a CC.

Not all Delta planes have video. MD80's, some 737's and any regional jets (which may be DeltaConnection or DeltaExpress) don't have video monitors. On the other planes that have video monitors, movies are generally only shown on flights over 4 hours long. For shorter flights, they offer a bunch of short features, generally some sit-com, some news, some entertainment stuff, some Delta commercials, so I wouldn't count on the video provided on a plane to entertain children.
