Does Sci-Fi Restaurant need to be reimagined?

Rather than re-theme or expand, why not have a 2nd restaurant? This one could be themed to the sci-fi movies of the 70's & 80's. (I'm sorry to be the one to say this, but the 70s were half a century ago!)

There are plenty of 70s & 80s sci-fi movies in the Fox Studio library from which to obtain movie clips (not even including Star Wars).

I’ve always enjoyed it. Maybe a bit more lighting in the cars like for when we get food. Like have the option to get more light from inside the car (especially since they had to rescue my phone from inside the seats last year!)

I just want the Buffalo chicken potato skins back
I've thought about taking a few glow sticks, pop them when we get there and just lay at front of table. That would probably give plenty of light for table without bothering others.
I would love it if they would offer a breakfast with clips of 90s Disney afternoon shows… maybe with a quick meet & greet with Chip and Dale in their Rescue Rangers outfits when you go to leave or first enter..
We did a prix fixe breakfast there one year ... January trip ... and it was EXCELENT! One of our best meals ever, certainly our best breakfast.

There are so many other themes that could easily work like Star Wars, Indiana Jones or even the Muppets show.

I agree with you. I get the "why" of showing the clips that they do, but they are dated for younger generations. I think pulling in Star Wars or just rotating through the films would work well.

But .... the entire theme here is we are traveling back in time to 1950's Hollywood. The paintings on the walls were the view back then. The cars are from back then. The CM costumes are back then. The atmosphere is all back then. You can't have movies that are any later than back then.

Maybe they could find some more movies of the time in the Sci Fi genre to change it up OR even some cartoons ... Jetsons are later but close enough maybe?

This is true. I was thinking leave the cars and drive-thru atmosphere but update everything else.

I personally love Sci-Fi, and the theming is arguably in the top 5 Disney restaurants. The food seems to get a bad rap but they have good burgers, milkshakes and old school syrup sodas. Guaranteed the beat drive-in movies theatre food on the planet lol. There are so many other themes that could easily work like Star Wars, Indiana Jones or even the Muppets show. I would love all of them but I hate to see the classics go. Either way they would need to expand the seating to accommodate the hordes of people. What are your thoughts?

They need to bring back "The Cat that Hated People" !!! :)). They removed it from the loop !!!

Maybe just a refurb / refresh. Upgrade the car booths. Other than that its perfection

sometimes we're there so long that the movie clips start repeating.

Only complaint is that they need to add a ton more of the old Sci fi movies so nothing is repeated. There's so much that they can choose from.

Our first visit was 1994, and the “car hops” who seated us were on roller skates! I miss “The Cat that Hated People” and a lot of other clips from the loop. I think the loop used to run about 60 minutes, now it’s down to 45. 😞

I ate there a ton as a kid in the 90s. Ate there for the first time in 15 years last year. Imho it's the last place on property that needs updating. It's an amazing experience visually with super affordable (tasty) food. I think when you include the experience value....it's the best value per dollar on property.

This restaurant is one of imagineering's achievements. While I personally hate the "Walt would be rolling over in his grave " crowd....I think SciFi is one of the few "Walt would be doing backflips" successes.

BTW it’s always fun to say to the kids “this is how your mom and I dated back in the day” to see their wife-eyed responses, even if you are stretching the truth a bit.

Ate there for lunch a couple of years ago since the place next door was closed for remodeling and there were only fast food type places in that area of the park. We thought the inside looked dingy and in need of a refresh. Not sure what some find so amazing about the decor. We managed to sit at one of the regular tables near the back and had no interest in sitting in a car where we would have to talk to the back of the heads of others in our party. The food was very average and nothing to write home about. If you aren't over 50 then the brief movie clips from old TV shows and sci-fi movies probably won't mean very much. Not a place we would ever choose to eat again.

I love sci-fi, I don't think it's needs to be re-themed but the flicks could use some refreshing. We love the food and the ambiance. It's a lot of fun since it's so different than other old timey 50s/diners.

I would like to see a bit of attention paid to the food quality and selection. Maybe it was a bad day, but whoever had made the fried pickles the day I was there did a lousy job. I don’t know if they make them in house or get them from a supplier, but too many were fried dough without any pickle. And they used to have a salmon on salad option that I loved. The burger I had was okay, but well done, not the medium I ordered. So, if this had been my first time, I would not be inspired to go back.

I just think a refurbishment of the decor would be great. It just felt a bit worn. I’d loved to see them make a second drive in! Maybe with cars that car fit 3 or 4 across with a different time frame of decor and movie loop.
