Do the grown-ups in your house hang stocking up for Santa to fill?

My parents never did.

I will in the future as I have a personalized, handmade stocking that is one of my favorite things I own.

Stockings are my favourite part of Christmas--so yes, we all get one. That said, the adult ones are often fairly light on items and more generic (since we tend to buy whatever we want/need when we want or need it, so there is little left to use for Christmas time :rotfl:)

I grew up alone with my mom so I always filled hers with pictures and small treats. Now our children do that for us, making us things and we will buy each other a few small gifts and adding a few small things we help them buy. So it has always been from them, not Santa. They fill the stockings before they go to bed.

We have a tradition in our family all the kids (once they are old enough to know) fill up the stockings for the adults in the house, and the adults fill them up for the kids, so Santa comes to everyone on Christmas morning.

It started because my mom has this stocking complex left from her childhood, and so we started getting her stockings because that was all she really wanted. Then it just kind of spread, and now we all love it. Any adult who stays with us gets a stocking. Even if we have to go out and buy one for them. I love watching their faces when they see Santa brought them a surprise. It's like they get to be kids again for awhile. My grandfather got so excited the Christmas we spent with him. He even ran off and hid his stocking, so we couldn't pack it away later.

Yes. Santa fills the kids' stockings and DH and I fill each other's.

In my extended family my mom always did the stockings for me and my sisters and my dad and my dad did one for her. As we married and had children she continued doing a stocking for each of us plus the additions. She got to the point where it was overwhelming for her and she often didn't know what to out in them--especially the sons-in-law. She skipped it one year and my youngest sister was upset--said it was her favorite part. We came up with the idea of drawing names and each person fills a stocking for the person whose name they drew on Thanksgiving. We keep it a secret and everyone tries to figure out who has who. When we started the kids were too young to participate so each person brings one item per child so that the kids get a stocking too. At some point I think the kids will be included--the youngest is only 1 and the oldest is now 13. So everyone in my family gets 2 stockings, one at grandma's on Christmas Eve and one at home from Santa.

Yep. Stockings are for small gifties and surprises (and things you do not want to unwrap in front of a crowd  ), presents are for bigger things, like clothes, and stuff we already bought for ourselves to be wrapped for others to see.
One year, the stockings had nothing in them but a bag of candy coal -- and a park pass pixiedust:

This year, I've been picking up pins that mean something to each recipient, and useful gadgets. The big presents from me are new tires for DH, and a bose cd player for my Dad. DH knows, Dad doesn't (and doesn't read the Boards) And there's always the clothes :rotfl2:

I never did until my daughter reached 4 or 5 or something, and she noticed mom and dad's stockings were empty and she cried for us. "Why did Santa do that?"

She's 15 now and I still think she checks our stockings too as she brings them to everyone.

I once heard her ask my husband "what are you going to put in mom's stocking? I'll ask her what she wants." She asked me to write down what I needed and I think I taped a coupon for very expensive face cream from CVS to the list :rotfl:

Now, she makes her Dad make a list too. It's always the same exact things I would have bought for him ~ nail clippers, dress socks, favorite granola bar and his favorite: One Free Day. One free day we would leave him alone. He whips that pass out when it's time to go to one of my family get togethers during football bowl season. ;)

So sweet :goodvibes

We are kind of similar. When we are at my inlaws for Christmas (not often these days) there can be up to 23 stockings hanging (only 5 are kids--and even now they are teens), and it is fun to see guests realize they have one too. There is no set rule for who fills what, but my in laws always fill abotu half way, and it is funny through the night how many people bump into each other sneaking in to add a few things to one or several stockings.

Yes grown ups get stockings too in our house. Until she passed away my grandma filled the stockings. Sometimes it was just the 6 of us(grandparents, mom and dad, me and my sister) and sometimes different random family would come but everyone always got a stocking. The mantle only had room for 6 stockings so ours would go there(in the same order every year) and then anyone else's were leaned against the bottom of the fireplace. As the years went on some people's stockings often had plastic bags underneath them because they stocking stuffers overflowed the stockings. There were things we always got in them(assorted toiletries, candy, fruit) and then grandma would get a couple special things to put in there as well. Now my mom does the stockings for the five of us(her, dad, me, dh, and my sister).

Everyone in our house gets one (kids, adults & pets). My parents also hang stockings for everyone (themselves, kids & spouses and grandkids). Santa doesn't bring much to their house, but we do get something.

I really like stockings and they are inexpensive to fill so everyone gets a stocking in our house. (Of course, I pick what goes in mine :rotfl:, but that's okay, I always get what I wanted. lol.)

When my siblings and I started to have children, we quickly realized it would be too expensive to buy for everyone at our family Christmas party (grandparents, parents, children) so we opted for a gift exchange with a price limit.

But, I have one sister who lives in Florida and she was soooo disappointed because she never gets to do fun things for all her nieces and nephews who live here in Indiana. She didn't want to give up buying for them all.

We decided that we would each buy one small item (the goal is $1, but sometimes we stretch it a bit, that's a toughie) for every grandchild and fill a stocking for them. The grandparents usually spend a bit more (maybe 5-10) for each stocking. So every child gets a small gift plus a few goodies. It's fun to see what low-cost items everyone comes up with each year. We've really enjoyed it.

I love all your stories. Stockings are fun!

Stockings are Huge in our house.... Lots of gift cards and gas cards...nice hair product, little games, candy, ornaments. Photos etc. usually a gag gift, book, cooking treat etc. we always have. " stocking extenders" bags to hold the oveflow.

He use to but as the family grew & grew he didn't seem to be able to! ;)

Yup - me, hubby, 24 year old daughter and 22 year old son all get overflowing stockings.

Here's a side question: Are the stocking presents wrapped or unwrapped?

For some reason, from our first Christmas together that silly Santa always wrapped every single gift in each stocking, and as much as I love to give him a break and tell him the wrapping is not necessary, I just can't seem to do it. It takes me . . . uhm, I mean Santa forever to wrap all of the stuff!

I have always filled stockings for my grandchildren. I used to fill stockings for our adult children too, but stopped that as it was just too hard to find things to fill them that they would like.

My college-age granddaughter asked me a couple of years ago if she was still going to get a stocking, so yes I've continued to fill one for her. :) For some reason the stockings are what the kids look forward to the most. I'm even filling a stocking for her boyfriend this year. They have been together almost a year and a half now, he came with her last year at Christmas and while I did buy him a gift I didn't fill a stocking for him but decided to include him this year and hopefully he will enjoy it. I asked her for ideas on what to fill it with, so that helped. :)
