Does resort decor matter to you?

I would really love to try CR on my next visit. It has so many pluses: monorail, close walk to MK, and the tennis facilities are right there (DH is a big tennis freak). But when I showed him pics of the rooms he was absolutely turned off. I have to say that the headboards kinda turned my stomach. I know, I know everyone has different likes. Does anyone know if all the tower rooms have the same loudish colors and patterns?

I think the CR is really strange. Personally I don't think I would like to stay there. I love staying on the Boardwalk.

Ive recently been checking out pictures of different resorts looking for ideas. I thought the same thing about the CR, that it was a little loud/bold. However, I think I could live with it for a few days if I wanted to stay at the resort for the other plusses, like view, monorail, restaurants, etc...

Decor absolutely matters to me. Although I cannot comment on the Contemporary, I can say that we did not like CBR at all. We thought the rooms were rather tacky. We LOVED French Quarter and that remains our favorite moderate resort.

I hate the CR's decorations, however, I loved the room (does that make sense? ;) ). I had a wonderful stay at the CR and will definitely stay there again. I have some photos posted of my CR tower club room (click here).

From what I remember reading here on the Dis, the suites in the tower do not have the garish color scheme. Perhaps you could consider booking one of those? Again, my CR stay was wonderful (in spite of the yucky color scheme): the staff was lovely and the resort's proximity to the MK was great.

Yeeks, Janet2K's photos really show a bizarre color scheme. The views are great though. Thanks.

Resort decor does matter to me as well. I like all sorts of different decorating schemes, so I have been pleased with most of the decor at the Disney resorts I have stayed at. The CR's decor doesn't appeal to me, but I might eventually stay there for a couple of nights just for it's great location and fun atmosphere.

We thought we would be turned off by the Contemporary, and come to find out, it is one of our favorites.

Yes, the colors are bright and energetic, but they fit the theming nicely. All of the rooms, whether in the tower or in the wings have this same theming... and it is much better than the dull drab cream colored rooms of the past.

The resort would remind you of a bustling city... very urban. Everywhere you turn you will see something with Mickey, so we call it "Mickey's resort".

The views are spectacular whether you are facing the park or Bay Lake.

You just can't beat the convenience. We loved being a 5 minute walk to the MK, and we had no complaints whatsoever about the monorail, bus or boat transportation systems.

Call us converted Contemporary fans... I never would have believed it myself!

I have to agree with eeyore0062, the colors are bright but they work at that resort. This is our favorite resort. For each of our stays at this resort, the rooms have always been bright, cheery and clean and a bit larger than rooms at other resorts. The location and convenience are unbeatable and the views from the tower are wonderful. We haven't experienced trouble with transportation here and it's nice to come out of your room and see the monorail coming thru. It's a fun resort with a great location and I don't think you can go wrong with the CR. :D

Janet2K - Your pictures are astounding. We are going back for 3rd time and my DD said "are we staying in the tower". No, but I'm really tempted to change it and surprise her - waiting to see what my tax return will be.

To All the Skeptics:

Add our family to the list of those who have been "won over" by the CR.

Our first trip there in 2000 was after 5 nights at the GF. Everyone walked into the room and went "ugh". It was me, DH, 2 DDs - aged 5 and 8. It did not take long to love the resort. At that time, the GF had no pool slide - this did; it has a great arcade; a great playground; the monorail going thru the resort is just breathtaking. The ducks would just come and knock on our patio door. My kids just had so much fun. They loved it more than GF.

We stayed there again in 2001.

And I just switched over our June ressie from CBR back to CR.

You get used to the room once you are there. Personally, I really like the bathroom area. Weird as it may sound, but that's more important to me than the room. But the biggest draw to a Magic Kingdom fanatic like me is being right there. Although I really wanted to try CBR, I couldn't bear being that far away from MK, esp. on EE day. (I said I am a fanatic).

It is definitely worth a try. Like someone else said - Try it for a couple of nights. Then switch over to GF or Poly (we're trying that one for a couple of nights too this trip).

Thanks everyone for your replies!

Janet2K: Thankyou for your fantastic photos! I showed them to DH and he said maybe he would stay there. We are going in March (staying at BWI) and he is going to play some tennis at CR so I'm going to see about checking out the room then. I'm torn between the Polynesian conceirge and CR's. Are the rooms for CR's conceirge all on the same floor?

yeah - it really does matter to me. We stayed at the Contemporary once but not in the tower so I can't answer your specific question. The rooms aren't that special there but I will say the nostalgia and the monorail and the walk to MK made up for it. I'm not clamoring to stay there again but it was a nice experience that I'm glad I had. I say try it.

I like the present decor better than the beige and black they had before. It rather fits the place, especially since the lobby uses the same type of colors.

I also think the fact that the rooms are so large kind of dilutes the impact of all the colors and patterns;) I wouldn't want to live with it, though:p

I just looked at Janet2K's pics of the comtemporary rooms... I got dizzy from those bed spreads.... I think I would have to turn them over LOL

That is one bizarre colour scheme/pattern combo

Last year we were booked at the CR and I checked out the pictures ahead of time. I really wasn't very impressed by the look but we still wanted to give it a try.

Boy,.....were we wrong! We loved the room. The colors are bright and the decor is different, but it works. We came back to the room tired, but the room didn't look tired. It was interesting and fun. We never dreaded coming back to the room and they are large and spacious. The bathroom is set up nicely with two separate areas. While in the room, we didn't hear any noises from other guests. We had a great time and really enjoyed the decor. The Contemporary Resort was a pleasant suprise!! Try it, I think you will like it!!

We were also won over to the CR when we stayed there last year due to SOG being closed for renovations. I kept looking at pictures and saying to my husband "See, it's really cool" with my teeth gritted and thinking this place is going to be awful. We loved walking to the MK, and the kids loved the room since it was filled by their favorite colors- purple and yellow. Like others had mentioned, the bathroom was nice too.

We'd love to try the Polynesian, but that's just not in the picture anytime soon unless something happens to SOG after it's re-opened and they put everyone booked there at the Poly. My daughter is hoping that's what will happen when we go back in the future for MNSSHP- hopefully the near future.

Hi,
Iagree about the CR. I stayed there in 1973. The decor seemed appropriate then!!! Not so now. My husband and I are returning to Disney for the first time this summer without the kids. Since I'm sure we will be spending alot more time at the resort, the decor is ever so important. We're going in late July. My thought is that the WL will offer great decor and maybe give us the illusion that the temperatures are a little cooler!!
