Does poor grammar or word usage bother you?

It gets to me at times. I'm living in the wrong state for poor grammar to bother me, but it really does. If I hear someone else say "We had went to Walmart" in my office, I think I may scream.

Or using the wrong word:

"There was a wreck on the interstate and the cars ended up in the medium."
No, the word is median!

"They took to garbage to the landfield." No, the word is landfill.

"i don't want to be held reliable." No, the word is liable.

I honestly could go on for pages. Please add some of your favorites.

I used to work with someone who always said "Pacific" like the ocean instead of "specific".

I have to confess to my own imperfections too. I insert an "m" into the word purple when I prounce it (purmple). I try to catch myself but it slips out sometimes.

I also say "woof" when I mean "wolf". Luckily, I don't have a reason to say it much.:rotfl:

I especially hate reading posts where the grammar, spelling, capitalization, etc. errors are rampant. It makes it really difficult to read posts. I'm not talking about errors like teh for the,but posts where there is no thought at all for any kind of spell check.

Certain ones will drive me insane. Mainly the ones where people can't determine which should be used between words like "they're" and "there" and "their"....written ones bother me way more than spoken ones.

Yes.

But, I only point it out if I'm trying to be snarky.

I have several coworkers that say "Where you at?" :headache:

It also drives me insane when someone says "Here's (plural noun)" - for example, "Here's the reports..." No, it's "Here ARE the reports."

Don't get me started about receiving an email that says "Your welcome."

This is a spelling error, not a grammatical error....

Free Dinning

Ugh. It drives me bonkers.

:hippie:

Me too!! :headache:

My husband says chimley instead of chimney. :headache:

My son has trouble pronouncing some of his words because of his palate expander. He didn't have trouble before he had it put in. Although it did take me a while to get him to stop saying tooken instead of taken. I have no idea where he heard it. :confused3

I had to enter course comments onto the computer over Christmas break, and some of the grammer made me want to cry.

A lot of mixing up "to" "too" and "two."

Horrible semi-colon and comma usage.

Using "should of" instead of "should have."

The list goes on into even darker territory.

These people are in COLLEGE for heaven's sake!!!!

It does..drives me batty. But I'm also the default spellcheck/grammar check in our house.:lmao: If DH is doing a paper for work or whatever, he has me read it over before he makes a final copy to make sure his grammar, etc is all correct.

I also once read a book called "Eats, Shoots and Leaves" which was about grammar/spelling and got a kick out of it. The writer really WAS a grammar..uh..fiend.:lmao:

Yes, it drives me crazy too. Like someone said, there, they're and their is a big one for me. I hate seeing when the wrong word is used. I also had a co-worker that used to call a manila folder - a vanilla folder. This was a guy with a college degree. :lmao:

I also say "woof" when I mean "wolf". Luckily, I don't have a reason to say it much.:rotfl:

DD used to say this when she was little so every once in a while I say it as a joke. She used to refer to Snow White and the Seven Dorfs. :lmao:

The one that's been driving me crazy online lately is the use of the word "tenant" when it should be a "tenet" of a religion. I don't correct people because it just seems prissy to me to do so unless the person happens to be my child. But it does make me cringe.

I hate it when people pronounce the 's' at the end of Illinois.

Also, when people say supposably..instead of supposedly!

I really get annoyed when people pronounce pen and pin the same. They are TWO different words!!

I also don't like when people misuse "seen" (i.e. "I seen that movie the other night." Instead of, "I saw that movie the other night.")

Oh, another one...'yuns, instead of you all, ya'll, you guys, etc. I get that a lot in southern Indiana.

I get very irritated by it as well. Some of my biggest be peeves are misusing too,two and to, mispronouncing words like especially(eCKspecially), people saying,"done did" or "I seen" and "tooken"(taken or took, people!)

I don't know why,but the one that takes the cake is "could of" as in, "I could of done my homework." No, it is "could HAVE" or "could've" , but in NO WAY is it EVER "could of.":teacher:

See I'm the opposite. Spoken ones bother me way more than written mistakes. Mistakes like they're, there, their and to, too, two almost never bother me. I figure it was just a typing brain fart and since I can understand what they meant I don't care.
