Does Pixie Dust Help with Decision-Making? A 2012 PTR! NEW! 6/30 pg.85

It cracks me up that Chelsea couldn't relax on this vacation when she was the one who wanted to go to the beach! :rotfl2::rotfl:

I'm glad your jet-skiers made it back in one piece, sounds like a fun time for them!

I'm kind of like Chelsea is when we go on vacation. I always want to have a plan and I never want to have down time!

The jet skiing adventure looks like it was a lot of fun!

What a fun day! DH would be ALL OVER that jet ski business! He always says he wants to rent something when we're at WDW too. His sister lives on a lake here and used to have a jet ski (waverunner) and he would take the girls out on it whenever we visited. They loved it!

LOL at the kids sleeping on the sofa!

I love the relaxing morning. Poor Chelsea. She couldn't wait to have a beach vacation and then she couldn't stop the WDW planning mode from invading!

Awesome fun on the jet skies. My kids did it last year and absolutely loved it. I must confess that I was scared out of my wits and couldn't wait to get back to dry land. I was sure someone from my party was going to hit me and I was going to end up head first in the bay tangled in seaweed. I guess I am just not that adventurous! :rotfl:

Those jet skis look like fun!

Tell Chelsea that Bo is back at DHS. He was there on July 3rd! I have a picture of him and Jeremy if I ever get my trip report started! :confused3

It cracks me up that Chelsea couldn't relax on this vacation when she was the one who wanted to go to the beach! :rotfl2::rotfl:

That is what I thought. :rotfl:I love the screened in porch. My parents had one when I was growing up and I miss it a lot.it was my favorite place to sit and read.

Oh, definitely yay on a birthday trip! Chelsea's 13th birthday trip was so amazing! Disney makes such a big deal about birthdays, and I remember Charles saying to Chelsea after she essentially had a week of people telling her Happy Birthday that it was time to head home and be a regular person again.

Thanks Jackie! :thumbsup2 I think that's the plan. I've been MIA from the Dis for awhile due to real life work, stress and a bit of depression I have to cancel our October trip. Oh well, what do ya do? Going back to read and catch up now! :goodvibes

Nothing wrong with Chelsea needing the day's itinerary, who can travel without a minute by minute plan? I may know someone who needs the same structure...... :rolleyes1

The jetskis looked like great fun! So glad Charles and Chelsea had fun with them.

Jackie I can so relate to having a hubby who is adventurous and being too chicken to do the stuff he wants to do. My DH is even worse though. He wants us to go parasailing!!!!!

This I could probably do, my DH thinks it would be fun to go skydiving! :scared1:

I'm with you on the jet skis - no thank you. :) But good that Chelsea & Charles had fun!!

I loved Cartersville; we drive around while we were there last week. Very sweet town!! Super cute!

I remember that morning well!!
Yours turned out better than mine, but it all worked out in the end.

The jet skiing actually looks like fun. I think that I would like to be with someone that has some experience driving one though...

Jackie I can so relate to having a hubby who is adventurous and being too chicken to do the stuff he wants to do. My DH is even worse though. He wants us to go parasailing!!!!! :scared1: NO WAY is that happening! And I am just like you with my DD. I don't want him taking her to do crazy stuff like that either. Glad they enjoyed their ride though. I think jet skis are probably pretty safe. I might would have even done that. They were some really big jet skis too. I don't think I've ever seen any that big before.

Nope, there is no way I would go parasailing. The jet skis did seem very big -- the guy who was in charge said they were brand new ones -- and he was very protective of them. LOL! Chelsea is always up for daredevil behavior.

Looks like a great adventure!

My girls are just like Chelsea...can't imagine where they get it from :rolleyes1

My family just wakes up at the beach and plans the day as the day unfolds...this is unnerving enough to me, but since I know how to pretend that the world doesn't revolve around me :rotfl2:, but it is problematic for my nine year olds.

Did Chelsea think her dad was cool to take her for an adventure?

Chelsea did think her daddy was pretty cool -- of course, she always thinks that whereas I am the "unfun" one -- gotta love teenagers.

We had a loose plan of one activity each day, but Chelsea wanted more details than that.

I had to chuckle while reading the latest update....

1) the kids sleeping on the same bed...the twins are like ill no way ;) maybe it's the same age concept

2) what you had no plan?

3) Chelsea and all her questions that sounds like my house everyday :rotfl:

4) go w/ the flow...that is a hard concept huh?

I love a beach vacation...but my crew thrives on that structure, want to get back to beach someday...but it will have to be a mixture of flow and routine...

I would never do jetskiing either but could see Matt and several of the kids into that.

J~

What's so funny about the sleeping on the couch thing is that if we had said, "You have to share a bed," there would have been a complete rebellion on our hands. :sad2: We had a very loose plan for each day -- one activity, the beach, and the restaurant where we would eat. That just wasn't structured enough for Chelsea, though.

Charles is already talking about jetskiing again!

Jet skiing sounds like it would be alot of fun. I would love to try it someday.
Glad they liked it! :goodvibes

Connor is awesome! I don't eat seafood either and now I have a new excuse...he is briiliant! ;)

Why is it that every beach town has a photo OP with a huge chair...

Lovely pic of you and Charles.

Awww, the portch with twinkling lights, smell of the marsh and palmettos....sounds so tranquil and perfect!
You sure do make this beach vacay sound amazing.

I never heard of palmettos before. Very cool info to know.
I will have to see if my DMom knew that since she is the gardener in the family.

Thanks! Yes, Charles and Chelsea had a blast doing the jet skis. They want to go again! Connor cracks us up with his reasoning.

I had to laugh while reading your update, b/c in Charles's and my relationship, I'm the slightly more daring one and he is the one freaking out when I do, or want to do, weird things. Even yesterday, when I finally decided to jump off this rock in the river we went swimming in, he was freaking out b/c I wanted photo and video proof and he wouldn't be there to help me (the water was well over HIS head there, so of course way over my head.) He confessed to being relieved when our parasailing in Disney got canceled, too.

Yep, I would have been freaking out right along with Charles -- no jumping off of big rocks, please. LOL!

Way too funny about all of Chelsea's questions and her need for a plan! I have a 14 1/2 year old daughter as well--and well, I totally understand!

It is absolutely exhausting, isn't it? ::yes::

The pictures of Chelsea and Charles on the jetski were great. I am trying to talk my DH into trying it the next time we are at the beach.

They had a lot of fun. Of course, I didn't really need to hear about how fast they went. ;)

I loved the story about sleeping on the sofa. They had a common enemy fear of sleeping alone in a strange place. Did they ever go to there separate rooms to sleep at night?

You'll see as the trip progresses...:rolleyes1

Love reading your report and seeing the pics Jackie! Connor cracks me up with his book. I would have been one of the ones on the jet ski. So glad your fears were unfounded - I bet they'll go again one day. Chris and I took a tour around the island in Key West on jetskis and really enjoyed it. Maybe if y'all ever get down there...

Thanks! How fun! Charles would love to jet ski around Key West! That would be up his alley completely!

Jackie, I'm with you about jetskis. Our son had one & had a couple of accidents with his. One was a 10 yo boy ran into him. Son's jetski was totaled & he hurt his back. Now he no longer is into that stuff. Mortality caught up with him! He is ok now, no lasting effects to his body.

I love that Chelsea wanted structure. Conner & the kitty is fun also. We always seem to find kitties while on a trip.

Yikes! How scary about the jet ski accidents!

We always find animals, it seems. LOL!

While I may not need minute by minute plans, I completely understand where Chelsea is coming from. It is driving me completely nuts that the rest of my extended family won't lay down any type of plans for our beach trip next week. I told DH I was making a rough itinerary and we could go from there. I think he just laughed at me!

The jet ski's look fun! Glad they had such a great time!

That's one of the reasons we had to stop vacationing with my SIL and her family. No plans any time. It drove me nuts. I need a loose itinerary at the very least.

Poor Chelsea!

She's so Disney vacation trained!

I have to be honest, I'm with her. We've got a cruise on the horizon next year (long story) and when one of my girlfriends, who has been on a few, said to me, well you could read on the boat, I thought...what...I can sit and read?

We're so used to doing. And then I got really excited! All that uninterrupted reading time! I know you know what I mean.

I like to see how your Disney family meets a relaxing vacation, it's really neat.

Uninterrupted reading time is very exciting! :thumbsup2

We're so used to doing, too, and this trip was a nice blend of doing and relaxing.

I think jetskis would be a blast!

You are welcome to them. :lmao:

Connor with longer wavy hair looks just like you, Jackie.

Really? We always think Connor looks just like Charles.

It's sweet that brother and sister found comfort in each other in a 'strange' place.

It certainly wouldn't have happened like that if it had been mandated.

Morning on the screened-in porch with a book sounds lovely.

It was heavenly! Just me, my book, my coffee, and the squirrel. :thumbsup2

Love it.

It is adorable!! I keep thinking we should do a long weekend at the beach. Long Island has to have something like this! So glad Charles was loving it, it's fun to see him excited and so into it!

Oh, I imagine Long Island has all sorts of options. That would be a fun weekend.

You mean I have that many more years of sticks in the house?!

Without a doubt! And rocks and leaves and all manner of other things! I still have to check Connor's pockets when I do wash, and sometimes when I forget, I have to go stop the dryer and find the rock that is crashing around.

Very cute!!

Thanks!

Living here in NYC I have come to LOVE the ocean. I want to be there every single weekend! There is nothing like it!

I LOVE the ocean, too! I would move to the beach in a heartbeat.

Glad you did the little dance!! :thumbsup2

Couldn't pass that opportunity up! LOL!

And I have many more years of this to look forward too it seems. Sigh. ;)

Maybe Henry will be a neater eater than my two.

So glad Charles and Chelsea made it back and enjoyed it! I would have been a nervous wreck myself. I am NOT a fan of those sort of things either. And like Charles, Joe loves them.

Now that they survived the experience, I think it is great that they did it. At the time, though, I was not happy about it.

The more I hear about that porch...the more I like it!

I am still missing it!

Jet skis are fun and we've been on them several times (well, Ramon and I, not the girls)...but, yes, it is very easy to flip them over and fall in the water. :rolleyes1

Yikes! I think I am glad I didn't know that ahead of time.

Chelsea with her questions sounds a lot like Miren (DD7) and our friends' DS6 while we were down in the Keys last month: what are we doing today? when are we doing it? is it time yet? when are we going fishing? when are we going to the pool? when are we going to eat? when are we going fishing? when are we going fishing? when are we going fishing?

:lmao: Yes, that is how it was multiple times a day with Chelsea.

Blake and I talk about having a porch by the water in the first house that we buy and being able to drink coffee on it in the mornings. So totally jealous of your mornings on yours! :goodvibes

Sadly I only had five mornings of doing that -- I would love a lifetime of that morning tradition!

For a second there, I thought that Chelsea was on her cell phone in the last picture! My cousin is totally in that, I can't NOT text stage. Glad to see that Charles and Chelsea survived and had a great time! :thumbsup2

:lmao: I am surprised she was able to leave her cell phone for an hour to go jet sking. ;)

Sounds like a fun way to spend the day! Relax in the morning and then try jet-skiing in the afternoon! It certainly looked like fun! I've never tried it but I would like to some day! I should use the Disney voucher some day! ;)

Charles and Chelsea had a blast on it!

Poor Connor and Chelsea! That is so sweet that they were spooked so they hung out together! :goodvibes Some people are like that in unfamiliar places! And I love Chelsea's Disney-brainwashing! What do you mean there are no set plans for the day?! I'm glad she and Charles had fun on the water while you and Connor had fun hanging out on the shore!

I know -- I did feel a bit bad that they were spooked, but they managed to cope. I was surprised they didn't wake us up.

A fun, yet relaxing day. My DS is like Chelsea. As soon as I could understand what he was asking as a toddler it was always about food or plans. He likes his structure.:lmao:

Apparently so does Chelsea which I didn't realize until this trip -- I guess because I always have things structured so she doesn't have to demand it. ;)

I love the cottage! It is so adorable.
Charles and Chelsea very brave! I could never jetski.
Tybee looks so peaceful and relaxing.

Thanks! Yes, Charles and Chelsea are definitely my fearless ones.

It cracks me up that Chelsea couldn't relax on this vacation when she was the one who wanted to go to the beach! :rotfl2::rotfl:

I know it! Miss I-Don't-Want-To-Go-To-Disney-I-Just-Want-To-Relax-At-The-Beach turned into Miss-What-Do-You-Mean-There-Is-No-Set-Plan??? :lmao: Serves her right! ;)

I'm glad your jet-skiers made it back in one piece, sounds like a fun time for them!

They loved every minute of it!

I'm kind of like Chelsea is when we go on vacation. I always want to have a plan and I never want to have down time!

The jet skiing adventure looks like it was a lot of fun!

They had a great time jet skiing. I usually don't want any down time on vacation, but since this was a beach trip, I knew there would be a good bit of it.

What a fun day! DH would be ALL OVER that jet ski business! He always says he wants to rent something when we're at WDW too. His sister lives on a lake here and used to have a jet ski (waverunner) and he would take the girls out on it whenever we visited. They loved it!

Charles would love to be able to do it more, I am sure!

LOL at the kids sleeping on the sofa!

I guess watching those skeleton pirates before bed was just too much for them. ;)

I love the relaxing morning. Poor Chelsea. She couldn't wait to have a beach vacation and then she couldn't stop the WDW planning mode from invading!

I never would have guessed she would be the one to insist on structure.

:rotfl:

:lmao:Those are the kinds of thoughts I would have had in my mind if I had done it, too!

Those jet skis look like fun!

Tell Chelsea that Bo is back at DHS. He was there on July 3rd! I have a picture of him and Jeremy if I ever get my trip report started! :confused3

Yeay! We would love to see Bo again!!!

That is what I thought. :rotfl:I love the screened in porch. My parents had one when I was growing up and I miss it a lot.it was my favorite place to sit and read.

We practically lived out there on that porch when we were at the cottage. It was so wonderful!

Thanks Jackie! :thumbsup2 I think that's the plan. I've been MIA from the Dis for awhile due to real life work, stress and a bit of depression I have to cancel our October trip. Oh well, what do ya do? Going back to read and catch up now! :goodvibes

Hi, Kelli! Glad you are back on the DIS but I totally understand the Disney depression.

Nothing wrong with Chelsea needing the day's itinerary, who can travel without a minute by minute plan? I may know someone who needs the same structure...... :rolleyes1

:lmao: I have to have a loose game plan, but Chelsea, apparently, needs it all mapped down to the minute!

The jetskis looked like great fun! So glad Charles and Chelsea had fun with them.

I think they would have stayed out there all day if they could have!

This I could probably do, my DH thinks it would be fun to go skydiving! :scared1:

Nope to parasailing and nope to skydiving.

I'm with you on the jet skis - no thank you. :) But good that Chelsea & Charles had fun!!

Yes, I felt like it was money well-spent to see their windblown, happy smiles when they were back on land.

I loved Cartersville; we drive around while we were there last week. Very sweet town!! Super cute!

Thanks! It's not my first place I would choose to live, but it has its charms. I was bummed we weren't able to meet up.

I remember that morning well!!
Yours turned out better than mine, but it all worked out in the end.

 We all have our moments with our families on vacations.

The jet skiing actually looks like fun. I think that I would like to be with someone that has some experience driving one though...

Charles said it was a lot like snowmobiling which he did a lot growing up in Vermont, so that made me feel a little better. Just a little, though. ;)

After a fun hour of jet skiing for Charles and Chelsea and a quick lunch back at Fish Camp Cottage, we gathered all of our beach gear and headed down the street for our first afternoon on the sand.

Connor had been sure to bring along some of his favorite little friends.

2011-06-04067.jpg

Really, those LGM were one of the best souvenir purchases we have ever made. They have had many, many adventures since coming to live with us.

Charles taught Connor how to use his new boogie board (or wake board or whatever they are called).

2011-06-04054.jpg

Chelsea relaxed for a little bit and worked on her tan. As you can see, it was kind of hot on the beach.

2011-06-04055.jpg

She soon joined Connor out in the water on her boogie board.

One of the many wipeouts.

2011-06-04061.jpg

2011-06-04062.jpg

My little pseudo-surfers. Connor hated getting salt water in his eyes, so he was always wearing his goggles in the ocean.
2011-06-04060.jpg

It was completely relaxing just hanging out on the beach and enjoying the day. As you can see, the beach really wasn’t crowded at all!

2011-06-04063.jpg

The Pier and Pavillion are off in the distance.

Charles loving his beach time.
2011-06-04056.jpg

We saw lots of these container ships headed into the Port of Savannah.
2011-06-04059.jpg

Connor built his first of many sandcastles and invited the LGM to come live in it.
2011-06-04065.jpg

2011-06-04064.jpg

As the afternoon progressed and our stomachs started to growl, we decided it might be time to head back, shower, and get ready to go eat. Again, we were able to just walk to the restaurant.

Dinner that night was at Stingray’s, a restaurant right on Butler Avenue which has won many awards for the best seafood on Tybee.
2011-06-04070.jpg

We opted for one of the tables outside, and it was great fun people watching since it was right against the street. There was also live music which made the whole experience even better -- nothing like listening to Jimmy Buffet covers while enjoying the beachy breeze and a couple of drinks!

For an appetizer we ordered Sand Dollar Crisps. These were homemade potato chips with an unbelievably good dipping sauce. Connor decided to go with a chicken sandwich this time, Chelsea ordered the scallop plate again, Charles had the shrimp and flounder, and I ordered the special of the night which was fish tacos. Again, we were astonished at how delicious everything was except for Connor…he was not impressed with his chicken sandwich but managed to eat half of it and all of his French fries.

Enjoying the ambiance…

Pay no attention to the man behind Chelsea. Not sure what is up with him. I didn’t even notice that glare until we got home, and I uploaded the pictures. I thought about cropping him out, but that look is just too funny. Surely he didn’t think I was taking a picture of his table.

Chelsea opted to buy a t-shirt here. I guess I should track down all the souvenirs at some point and take pictures.

Dinner with an appetizer, two daquiris, and four adult entrees came to $80.20. Again, very reasonable for the quality of the seafood.

We strolled home, made pina coladas and s’mores, and played Scrabble out on the porch. Charles revealed himself to be a master Scrabble player and whooped us all! Chelsea came in a close second.

Another great day at Tybee was at an end!

UP NEXT: Morning on the beach with a little Chelsea and Connor drama...

Wonderful post again! I spotted the LGM before I saw you posted beneath the picture and though that was the coolest thing! He's like your Nobby of your family...off to another adventure! :thumbsup2 And yum yum, you all had a feast at a great price! And LOVE the low crowds on the beach, perfect day! :thumbsup2

Okay all caught up now!! A great read this morning, sun is starting to get hot, but I am thinking of the ocean breezes I am reading about and listening to the ocean I see in the photos!!!! :goodvibes

Such cute funky beach-town charm. That is clear from the AJ decor and the cottage of course, but so neat that "sign" outside the restaurant, reminds me of the mile signs to various disney places there are at Vero and HHR. Anyhow, LOVE seafood in this house too, so of course your dinners sound great!!!

That big chair continues to crack me up! Okay so the whole "OCD" planner in your daughter, that is clearly Disney trained I can see that!!!! So funny, but I agree unwinding during a family vacation can seem odd after theme parks! I think we liked Vero for that reason! But too cute that she was expecting to have a Plan.... :) And the JetSki, yep, nope, not doing it. They look like they are having a fun time though!!!! Dinner and drinks seem very reasonable so that is always a good thing on vacation -- food can be expensivefor sure! Oh, and I can't wait to see the dolphin experience!

Can I say that I just laughed at the icecream debacle. Yes we have those too, that is why I insist on cups in the summer, they cannot eat it quickly enough!!!! We had an icecream cone issue on our trip too, so funny watching them trying to negotiate all that mess!!! And then get mad at it!! JUST EAT IT for pete's sake!!!!

Scrabble, LOVE scrabble, we are just starting to play that with rules these days... Nolyn is still getting the concept! AND SMORES with Pina Coladas??!! That sounds like a winning combination!!!!!! :lovestruc I wish I could bring a blender when we go camping

FUN FUN updates, I also just love the beach bum lazy day in the sand, just enjoyed that so much at Vero... It seems you all had a good day in the sea and on the shore!!! :thumbsup2

Sounds like you had a wonderful, relaxing day! I had to laugh on one of the posts where you said that Chelsea could not handle not knowing exactly what you were supposed to be doing at any point in the day! I am the same way! The other day I was sitting in church and mentally going thru my daily WDW schedule and thought, "This has to stop!" haha

My little pseudo-surfers. Connor hated getting salt water in his eyes, so he was always wearing his goggles in the ocean.
2011-06-04060.jpg
...

:laughing:My Ds does the dame thing. Goggles all the time. When we went to the beach I could always find him easily by looking for the goggles, since he was the only one wearing them.

Pay no attention to the man behind Chelsea. Not sure what is up with him. I didn’t even notice that glare until we got home, and I uploaded the pictures. I thought about cropping him out, but that look is just too funny. Surely he didn’t think I was taking a picture of his table.
:rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2: You probably just caught him mid-expression.

UP NEXT: Morning on the beach with a little Chelsea and Connor drama...

Uh Oh. dum dumm dum

Somehow I missed the last update so I was able to catch up on 2 WOOT WOOT!!!

Love your beach day pictures!!! Love that the LGM were able to come along and enjoy their beach time!!! What a great picture of the kids with their boogey boards!!!

Another fabulous meal! I'm going to have to see about making a visit to Tybee Island some day!!

OOOH Scrabble...not a game I'm very good at but love to play LOL!!! and Smores...doesn't get any better than that!!

I love the BEACH!!! Can almost smell the salty air looking at your photos.

Sounds like a great trip so far....love the jetski adventure. I think you should try it next time Jackie!;) Although I must say, you look mighty content and happy relaxing on the beach!

Too funny about Chelsea wanting the minute-by-minute daily agenda. My how our Disney touring scars our poor impressionable youngsters! :rotfl:
