Does Pixie Dust Help with Decision-Making? A 2012 PTR! NEW! 6/30 pg.85

Jackie - I love the update. Sadly, I am now hungry! :lmao: I hope you get a beach and a WDW vacation! Suggestion, do the beach one first. I think the beach is a let down after WDW...even though it should be a great way to relax after the fast pace of Disney, I find that I simply compare them too much and the beach can't live up...:upsidedow

My students love Sarah Dessen, so of course, I read them to keep up on their current favs. I think you would enjoy them. If you are looking for a new title, when you finish school work, I just finished Blessings by Anna Quindlen and really enjoyed it.

Last summer we combined a WDW trip with the beach. For us we had to, since we live far away from either.
We did WDW first, then the beach. But we were only an hour from WDW so we came back for one more MK day in the middle of our beach time! That was perfect. The beach was a completely different, relaxed pace and I loved it. But I didn't have to give up WDW either...

I hope it will work out that you can do both, whether it be together or separately.

Listening to your dinner just made my stomach grumble.....YUMMO!!!!! But I LOVE the story of the ice cream!!! :) Made me laugh out loud!!!!!

I love the picture of you and Charles....I hope you frame that one it is so sweet!!!! I definitely like the way this man is beginning to think....one week Tybee, one week Disney!!! Sounds like a good summer!!!!

Gorgeous pictures Jackie! I love the one of your tiny little self in that big giant chair outside of the restaurant - too cute!

I'm with the kids, I would have jumped all over Pirates of the Caribbean too

Hi Jackie! I can see why you loved Tybee Is. so much! It just looks like a "Summer place" for Americana! I looked through the Mermaid cottages - I think it needs to go on my list of places to visit! I read some novels as a teen that took place on Tybee Island and in Savannah, too! I would love to go out and see these places.

So funny about the kids and the ice cream! I think it is a sticky virus that attacks most families!:rotfl2:

I just loved this update! For that matter we all did because I read most of it aloud to Marc and Baylor.
Good for you doing that little dance just to embarrass the resident teenager!:goodvibes

AND oh I knew exactly where you were going with the ice cream, but when you got to the part of sand being in Connor's I just hooted! That's when I had to read it to everyone because they just had to know what was so funny!
Poor, poor, Connor.....
Gosh, I really wished he had enjoyed his dinner. Maybe next one.
Your shrimp sounds divine!

Oh Chelsea! :rotfl2: Just wait until she is one of those "sad" adults acting like a teenager, she won't think it's so sad then. :rotfl2:

Your dinner sounds fabulous, I have a hankering for some fried shrimp now.

Too funny about the ice cream, I think it's the whole melting too fast thing. Kids just can't handle that. :rotfl2:

Great update! It makes me want to go even more!! I just love the beach and the Low Country. :rotfl2: The ice cream story had me cracking up. We always have a melting ice cream story at the beach too. We used to go to a campground in Surfside Beach, SC when I was young. It has campsites and actually a ton of houses. So, in June, we went back to stay in a house. The campground has golf carts. It never fails that when we get ice cream, we forget that eating ice cream on a moving golf cart is not a good idea. :rotfl2: It happened when I was younger and happened again this year.
The Chelsea story had me laughing too. It is amazing how ridiculous we are as teenagers. I remember some of the things I thought when I was a teenager and I just smile and laugh.;)

Great update! We visited Tybee Island a few years ago on our trip to Savannah. Would have loved to stay there.

Don't you just love "local" restaurants. We always to try to find them when we go to the beach as you can get some good food there.

I know exactly what you mean about ice cream and kids. Jeremy gets more on him then he eats. :confused3

Can't wait to read more!

Ok, Tybee Island looks like a dream....it honestly looks like somewhere I would want to live forever!:cloud9: It's official, I am gonna have to get myself there at some point in time! It sounds like such a nice, relaxing evening! Dinner, beach, ice cream, and watching Pirates or sitting on your screened-in porch which has twinkly lights?! That seems pretty perfect to me!

Your kids must be related to the kids in my family! I swear with Kyle (my cousin who is more like my brother and who is now nearly 17), it doesn't matter how careful he is, whatever he is eating will wind up on his clothing in some way! I bet the taste was worth the laundry sacrifice though!:goodvibes

Sarah Dessan is one of Chelsea's favorite writers! I haven't read any of her stuff -- would I like them, too?

Probably. They're nothing heavy, just teen chick-lit really. The general formula is some teen girl with some kind of troubled past (family drama or a death in the family for example) meets a guy and is hesitant to fall in love but he's all charming and has some kind of trouble in his past too....you can where I'm going with this...:) They usually take place in some charming little town (perhaps Tybee Island will be her next locale!), and have cute sub-plots and such. Just light and a good story usually! Quick reads. Picture Sisterhood of The Traveling Pants with only one main character

Loved the updated! I'm also craving some fried shrimp right now. And buffalo shrimp. The restuarant that Michelle works at serves it. YUM!

Sounds like a perfect first night. Dinner, walk, beach, melted ice cream and pirates.:lovestruc

Looking forward to more.

Tybee reminds me of Cape Cod. We went there a couple of times, loved it. Tybee would be better if one wanted to swim. The water temp off Cape Cod was 55 degrees in August.:scared1: Needless to say we didn't swim in the ocean much.

The shrimp sounds wonderful! Cedar Key, Fl. has great seafood, also. The shrimp boats come in there & the restaurants buy it tight from the shrimpers.

As, far as to moving south, DH wants to remain nearby to our sons. He's worried about needing someone to rely on as we get older. I told him if we moved south, we would probably see more of them.:)

Refering to palm or palmetto, the picture is of a pam tree. Palmettos are the shrubby things. I know this because my mom grew up in the backwoods of north Florida where there are no palm trees, but plenty of palmettos.

Your dinner sounded wonderful! about the ice cream.......although you aren't giving me much hope that my kids will outgrow the messy ice cream eating phase. :rotfl:

Maybe you will be luckier. I kept thinking my children will outgrow it -- maybe one day.

WOWzer I love those pictures!!!! What a gorgeous beach!!! What a nice walk!!

Thanks! The beach was beautiful. I love the Atlantic Ocean.

Hmmmm...shrimp sounds really good!!! Of course the ice cream story is hilarious!!!! Can't eat ice cream anywhere!!

Apparently not!

Can't wait for more!!!

Really like that picture of you and Charles!! SO NICE!!!!!

Thanks! It is one of our better pictures.

What a great start to your vacation!! :goodvibes A seafood dinner and a stroll to the beach plus relaxing on that porch sounds just perfect! Okay, now I'm craving shrimp. And, no, some kids never outgrow such things...as my DH would have been wearing that ice cream right alongside my kids! :lmao:

:lmao: Too funny about your DH. I was surprised I was able to keep from wearing my ice cream. I don't have the best track record, either.

It sounds like you had a very nice evening.

You pictures are wonderful! Really, I must go there someday.

It's good that Connor decided to be adventurous, but sad that he didn't like his adventurous food!

Connor wanted to be adventurous in the food department, but it doesn't really work for him. He tried to eat a good bit of the pasta, but it was really spicy.

Oh, that meal sounds sooooo good! And your cottage is just sounding better and better to me, especially the screened-in porch with the twinkle lights!

That porch in the evening was our favorite place to hang out!

Connor being a picky eater reminds me a lot of both Charles and Kailyn. My sister has surprisingly gotten a lot better, but Charles won't touch seafood, won't eat steak b/c he hates the texture, and hates the appearance of things like prime rib. He's been known to set up a fort between plates using menus so he doesn't have to see anything. :rotfl:

Too funny about Charles and his fort! LOL! Connor doesn't like steak either because of the texture. :confused3

That looks like such a relaxing place! And your dinner sounds great. I am very intrigued by the shrimp. I've never had them fried and dipped in hot sauce. Sounds good though! I love shellfish! Scallops are my favorite!

:lmao: Another ice cream debacle! :lmao:

Chelsea loves scallops! The buffalo shrimp was so good! I really wish I had ordered it for my entree as well.

Yay for Charles! :cool1:
Two separate trips, or move from one place to the other in one 'go round'? Like a week at WDW followed by a relaxing wind down week at Tybee?

We are thinking one of them at the beginning of our summer vacation, and the other over the Fourth. Next year the Fourth is on a Wednesday (2012 must be a leap year), so I won't have class except on that Monday -- that means we could go somewhere from Tuesday until Sunday.

What a sweet picture of you guys!

Thank you!

Your first evening was very nice - eating some good food, a walk to the beach, slopping ice cream all over the place, and hanging out with the family. Good stuff. :thumbsup2

It was good stuff! :goodvibes

Sounds like a great and relaxing evening.:goodvibes

Love that photo of you and Charles....did Chelsea take that?

Thanks! Yes, Chelsea took it. She is getting pretty good at taking pictures.

For sure! It's all that salty sea air! ;)

And the rum! Oh, wait, that was my rum. :rotfl:

Just reading about your evening makes me feel more relaxed. :cloud9:

We had a very relaxed feeling the whole week -- very different from our usual manic rush from park to park.

What a great day! Your dinner sounds wonderful and hanging in the porch, with twinkle lights and POTC on the video sounds like a great way to spend your first night!!!

::yes:: That porch -- it was :lovestruc at first sight!

Did you think the meals were expensive, or is that the normal price range out there? To us Midwesterners, things on the coasts are often more expensive than here. Were your dinners around $20 each?

AJ's and a place we ate on our last night were the most expensive meals there. The rest were really reasonable. Of course, Charles and I were also drinking which adds up very quickly.

LOL at the ice cream debacle!! :rotfl: and at Connor's feelings about food and its original form!!

I died laughing when he said that about seafood. I had never really thought about it in those terms before. :lmao:

Jackie - I love the update. Sadly, I am now hungry! :lmao: I hope you get a beach and a WDW vacation! Suggestion, do the beach one first. I think the beach is a let down after WDW...even though it should be a great way to relax after the fast pace of Disney, I find that I simply compare them too much and the beach can't live up...:upsidedow

I hope we get both next summer, too. I am certainly going to try my hardest to make it a reality. If we do it in two separate trips, I don't think we will compare them quite as much.

My students love Sarah Dessen, so of course, I read them to keep up on their current favs. I think you would enjoy them. If you are looking for a new title, when you finish school work, I just finished Blessings by Anna Quindlen and really enjoyed it.

Thanks! I haven't ever read anything by Anna Quindlen before, but I hear good things about her books.

Last summer we combined a WDW trip with the beach. For us we had to, since we live far away from either.

I refuse to give up Disney for two years in a row -- that will be the one I insist we do no matter what!

Listening to your dinner just made my stomach grumble.....YUMMO!!!!! But I LOVE the story of the ice cream!!! :) Made me laugh out loud!!!!!

My two just can't help themselves. :lmao:

I love the picture of you and Charles....I hope you frame that one it is so sweet!!!! I definitely like the way this man is beginning to think....one week Tybee, one week Disney!!! Sounds like a good summer!!!!

I think so, too, except that in between those two trips will be school stuff. I just keep telling myself it will all be finished in Spring of 2013. Then, I won't have to worry about scheduling trips around college stuff.

Gorgeous pictures Jackie! I love the one of your tiny little self in that big giant chair outside of the restaurant - too cute!

I'm with the kids, I would have jumped all over Pirates of the Caribbean too

Thanks, Michelle! That chair was ginormous! :rotfl:

It did seem like the perfect movie for the beach.

Aren't those Mermaid Cottages just the cutest little places ever??? I love how decorated they are -- not like most of the beach places we see for rent. They just really capture the beachy feel that I like.

Our kids are certainly susceptible to that sticky virus! LOL!

I just loved this update! For that matter we all did because I read most of it aloud to Marc and Baylor.
Good for you doing that little dance just to embarrass the resident teenager!:

Thanks! Chelsea kills me sometimes with her thoughts on life! :sad2:

AND oh I knew exactly where you were going with the ice cream, but when you got to the part of sand being in Connor's I just hooted! That's when I had to read it to everyone because they just had to know what was so funny!
Poor, poor, Connor.....
Gosh, I really wished he had enjoyed his dinner. Maybe next one.
Your shrimp sounds divine!

Wasn't that hysterical??? I almost lost it when he said that about the sand, and I was trying really hard not to because I knew he would not be amused. :rotfl:

Well, you will see what happens the rest of the week at dinner...;)

Oh Chelsea! :rotfl2: Just wait until she is one of those "sad" adults acting like a teenager, she won't think it's so sad then.

I CANNOT wait to remind her of that comment later in her life!

Your dinner sounds fabulous, I have a hankering for some fried shrimp now.

I have no doubt I could live on shrimp if I needed to!

Too funny about the ice cream, I think it's the whole melting too fast thing. Kids just can't handle that. :rotfl2:

Certainly not Chelsea and Connor. ;)

Great update! It makes me want to go even more!! I just love the beach and the Low Country. :rotfl2: The ice cream story had me cracking up. We always have a melting ice cream story at the beach too. The Chelsea story had me laughing too. It is amazing how ridiculous we are as teenagers. I remember some of the things I thought when I was a teenager and I just smile and laugh.;)

I am sure I had some weird opinions, too, when I was her age. Thankfully, I do not remember them. LOL!

Great update! We visited Tybee Island a few years ago on our trip to Savannah. Would have loved to stay there.

Thanks! We loved staying on Tybee. It was such a gem of a beach town!

Don't you just love "local" restaurants. We always to try to find them when we go to the beach as you can get some good food there.

I did a lot of research beforehand on the local places I thought we would like. I am all about eating like the locals.

I know exactly what you mean about ice cream and kids. Jeremy gets more on him then he eats. :confused3

Can't wait to read more!

It was nice that the kids were still in their bathing suits and I could just point them towards the outdoor shower. It made clean-up very easy.

I bet the taste was worth the laundry sacrifice though!:goodvibes

Too funny! At least I know now not to expect any improvement for awhile. ;)

Loved the updated! I'm also craving some fried shrimp right now. And buffalo shrimp. The restuarant that Michelle works at serves it. YUM!

I think I may need to come visit you, Vanessa, if there is buffalo shrimp near you! :goodvibes

Sounds like a perfect first night. Dinner, walk, beach, melted ice cream and pirates.:lovestruc

Looking forward to more.

We thought it was a pretty good first night.

Tybee reminds me of Cape Cod. We went there a couple of times, loved it. Tybee would be better if one wanted to swim. The water temp off Cape Cod was 55 degrees in August.:scared1: Needless to say we didn't swim in the ocean much.

Oh, that is cold!!! Brrrr!!!

The shrimp sounds wonderful! Cedar Key, Fl. has great seafood, also. The shrimp boats come in there & the restaurants buy it tight from the shrimpers.

Yum! We saw a lot of shrimp boats later on in the trip.

As, far as to moving south, DH wants to remain nearby to our sons. He's worried about needing someone to rely on as we get older. I told him if we moved south, we would probably see more of them.:)

Both sides make a lot of sense. Maybe you could have a winter place down in Florida? :confused3

Refering to palm or palmetto, the picture is of a pam tree. Palmettos are the shrubby things. I know this because my mom grew up in the backwoods of north Florida where there are no palm trees, but plenty of palmettos.

Actually, palmettos are trees, too, but I didn't know they came in shrub varieties as well -- very cool. It is a palmetto tree on the South Carolina flag -- that's how I try to tell the difference between a regular palm tree and a palmetto tree -- whether it looks like the silhouette on the flag or not. Certainly not a foolproof means of identifying them. :rotfl:

Jackie! I am behind an update but will catch up tonight!!! It looks like a good one!!! :thumbsup2

Have a great day!!!! :goodvibes

Palm tree:

I'm ready for a beach trip do over and Tybee Island sounds like just the place!

Well, you got me with the palmetto tree, I always thought that the tree on the SC flag was just a palm tree. So I guess that's why SC is the Palmetto State!

DH won't have 2 places, too much of a worrier & too tight! I'm working on renting for the winter.

LOVE your first night so far! Certainly did miss the food porn though ;)

I tell ya, I don't know what it is about that age, my cousin is 14 now and man, what a difference a few years can make! She's totally in that eye rolling/judgmental stage. Hopefully you can get a few giggles out of Chelsea on the trip! :thumbsup2
