I just loved this update! For that matter we all did because I read most of it aloud to Marc and Baylor.
Good for you doing that little dance just to embarrass the resident teenager!:
Thanks! Chelsea kills me sometimes with her thoughts on life!
AND oh I knew exactly where you were going with the ice cream, but when you got to the part of sand being in Connor's I just hooted! That's when I had to read it to everyone because they just had to know what was so funny!
Poor, poor, Connor.....
Gosh, I really wished he had enjoyed his dinner. Maybe next one.
Your shrimp sounds divine!
Wasn't that hysterical??? I almost lost it when he said that about the sand, and I was trying really hard not to because I knew he would not be amused.
Well, you will see what happens the rest of the week at dinner...
Oh Chelsea!

Just wait until she is one of those "sad" adults acting like a teenager, she won't think it's so sad then.
I CANNOT wait to remind her of that comment later in her life!
Your dinner sounds fabulous, I have a hankering for some fried shrimp now.
I have no doubt I could live on shrimp if I needed to!
Too funny about the ice cream, I think it's the whole melting too fast thing. Kids just can't handle that.
Certainly not Chelsea and Connor.
Great update! It makes me want to go even more!! I just love the beach and the Low Country.

The ice cream story had me cracking up. We always have a melting ice cream story at the beach too. We used to go to a campground in Surfside Beach, SC when I was young. It has campsites and actually a ton of houses. So, in June, we went back to stay in a house. The campground has golf carts. It never fails that when we get ice cream, we forget that eating ice cream on a moving golf cart is not a good idea.

It happened when I was younger and happened again this year.

I will have to remember not to eat ice cream on a golf cart!
The Chelsea story had me laughing too. It is amazing how ridiculous we are as teenagers. I remember some of the things I thought when I was a teenager and I just smile and laugh.
I am sure I had some weird opinions, too, when I was her age. Thankfully, I do not remember them. LOL!
Great update! We visited Tybee Island a few years ago on our trip to Savannah. Would have loved to stay there.
Thanks! We loved staying on Tybee. It was such a gem of a beach town!
Don't you just love "local" restaurants. We always to try to find them when we go to the beach as you can get some good food there.
I did a lot of research beforehand on the local places I thought we would like. I am all about eating like the locals.
I know exactly what you mean about ice cream and kids. Jeremy gets more on him then he eats.
Can't wait to read more!
It was nice that the kids were still in their bathing suits and I could just point them towards the outdoor shower. It made clean-up very easy.
Ok, Tybee Island looks like a dream....it honestly looks like somewhere I would want to live forever!

It's official, I am gonna have to get myself there at some point in time! It sounds like such a nice, relaxing evening! Dinner, beach, ice cream, and watching Pirates or sitting on your screened-in porch which has twinkly lights?! That seems pretty perfect to me!
Wait until you see the rest of the trip. Then, you will really want to stay there!
Your kids must be related to the kids in my family!

I swear with Kyle (my cousin who is more like my brother and who is now nearly 17), it doesn't matter how careful he is, whatever he is eating will wind up on his clothing in some way! I bet the taste was worth the laundry sacrifice though!
Too funny! At least I know now not to expect any improvement for awhile.
Probably. They're nothing heavy, just teen chick-lit really. The general formula is some teen girl with some kind of troubled past (family drama or a death in the family for example) meets a guy and is hesitant to fall in love but he's all charming and has some kind of trouble in his past too....you can where I'm going with this...

They usually take place in some charming little town (perhaps Tybee Island will be her next locale!), and have cute sub-plots and such. Just light and a good story usually! Quick reads. Picture Sisterhood of The Traveling Pants with only one main character
Oh, they do sound like something I would like. I know Chelsea just loves them. Sarah Dessan is probably her favorite author.
Loved the updated! I'm also craving some fried shrimp right now. And buffalo shrimp. The restuarant that Michelle works at serves it. YUM!
I think I may need to come visit you, Vanessa, if there is buffalo shrimp near you!
Sounds like a perfect first night. Dinner, walk, beach, melted ice cream and pirates.
Looking forward to more.
We thought it was a pretty good first night.
Tybee reminds me of Cape Cod. We went there a couple of times, loved it. Tybee would be better if one wanted to swim. The water temp off Cape Cod was 55 degrees in August.

Needless to say we didn't swim in the ocean much.
Oh, that is cold!!! Brrrr!!!
The shrimp sounds wonderful! Cedar Key, Fl. has great seafood, also. The shrimp boats come in there & the restaurants buy it tight from the shrimpers.
Yum! We saw a lot of shrimp boats later on in the trip.
As, far as to moving south, DH wants to remain nearby to our sons. He's worried about needing someone to rely on as we get older. I told him if we moved south, we would probably see more of them.
Both sides make a lot of sense. Maybe you could have a winter place down in Florida?
Refering to palm or palmetto, the picture is of a pam tree. Palmettos are the shrubby things. I know this because my mom grew up in the backwoods of north Florida where there are no palm trees, but plenty of palmettos.
Actually, palmettos are trees, too, but I didn't know they came in shrub varieties as well -- very cool. It is a palmetto tree on the South Carolina flag -- that's how I try to tell the difference between a regular palm tree and a palmetto tree -- whether it looks like the silhouette on the flag or not.

Certainly not a foolproof means of identifying them.
