Does owning/staying DVC make you feel different than when...

you visited as just cash/regular vacation?

I hope that came out right. Do you feel like you are missing anything by staying DVC or gaining anything??

We have never stayed in a timeshare and it will be weird not having someone make the bed etc for us everyday. I just don't want to feel like I am doing housework on vacation.

I am thinking we may do Trash/Tidy a couple times during our stay....

oh and its just 2 adults...

Actually it is just the opposite, somehow owning makes it seem more special. I just get a big smile on my face when we arrive and it never stops until we leave.

We truly do enjoy not having the Housekeeping everyday, although we did have turn down every night the last time we were there.

We much prefer the luxury of staying in as 2-bedroom, 2-bath Home Away from Home with a spacious living room and kitchen (but without daily housekeeping service) — instead of the "luxury" of squeezing all four of us into a single room with 2 double or queen beds (but with daily housekeeping service).

If we really wanted a full cleaning every day, we could pay for it. But I don't see the point. It takes us just 5 minutes to make the beds and tidy up. And I really don't see the point of paying for daily T/T service, which is little more than towel delivery.

I am already walking around with the big smile on my face and we have not even signed our papers yet. ;) ;) ;)

Terry S...how did you get turndown service?

thanks everyone

Yes, we do feel different -- we feel like we're at home! No maid coming in at whatever time to clean up -- we make our bed at home, it only takes a couple of minutes to pull the covers up. We hang up our towels and straighten the kitchen. The way we feel that we're on vacation is that we get up when we feel like it (no alarm clocks), we don't cook nearly as much as at home, and we have wonderful family time. (DD says to mention our awesome view of TOT last trip, also.)

We feel better-more like we're living at WDW instead of just visiting. Giving up the daily housekeeping was something we accepted as the only negative before we joined. However, as I really discovered on my first solo DVC trip, I loved it. The knowledge that no one came into MY room when I was out truly made me feel like it was home, a part of WDW that I owned. We've come to love the lack of daily housekeeping.

I think there is definitely a feeling of pride in ownership when you stay on pts. It is a little piece of Disney ownership that you have bought and paid for and it does feel somewhat different than when you are checking into a WDW resort as a paying guest.
I have obviously gained wonderful vacations in top of the line accomendations for many trips that I would have never been able to afford to the extent that I travel to WDW without my DVC membership. As for missing anything, you do lose daily maid service, the daily newspaper etc but that is true in almost all timeshares. I have mixed feelings regarding this loss, I like not having to worry about when housekeeping is coming into the room but I also like very much to have the beds made, bathroom cleaned, clean towels left etc, but not enough to pay the ridiculous daily fee, LOL! This is one thing I would change at DVC if I could, I would rather pay a couple of pennies more in dues and have daily housekeeping and the newspaper delivered. Not a full cleaning just maid service like what is done for paying guests: make the beds, spiff up the bathroom and leave clean towels. But that is just me, I am one that loves to be pampered to the max while on vacation and while making beds does not bother me, I would rather not have to. I am in the minority here I know because many DVC owners like not have daily housekeeping. I am just a very SPOV=Spoiled Person On Vacation, what can I say??? LOL

The only time I miss housekeeping is when we're in a studio, I would like more towels. But I have always found time to wash in the free laundry facilities and it really is no big deal. I'm like others. I don't miss the housekeeping services. We usually tidy up and make bed everyday. Hey, you're on vacation, so if you want to leave the bed unmade you can!!

Enjoy your DVC. It is the best!!

Disney-Kim.... You can just ask for it when you check in. They will charge you for it though. $10 per day. They will come in and make / turn-down your bed and replace your towels.

Just like Dee P I enjoy being pampered, but I enjoy the huge accomadations of a 2 Bedroom more, so I stay in my 2 Bedroom and I get Turn Down service.

I got turn-down service this last time I was down--I had my one bedroom on points Sun-Th nights, which was great, and Fri-Sat on cash thru central reservations, so they cleaned Fri and Sat mornings EARLY and turn-down service in the evenings. Believe me, that was just enough maid service for me. However, turn-down service was a bit of a pain because she always came just when I had my bath bomb in the whirlpool tub, and I had waited all day long to soak in that tub.:p

What a great idea! I never knew this service was available in DVC units, this would be perfect for us! Much cheaper than a daily cleaning, we will still have the larger villas and just the amount of housekeeping we need! Thanks for the great idea!!

DeeP... You are welcome, it was really nice, I agree it was the perfect amount of housekeeping and my kids really enjoyed the chocholates she left on their pillows and one night she even left BCV pins.

Cruelladeville.... I guess we got really lucky, she always came while we were gone and we got back to the room most evenings be 8:30 PM.

I am not sure if they do this at all the DVC resorts or not. It might just be the ones that are attached to Deluxe resorts. But I can definately say they do it at BCV.

Terry, What a nice inexpensive way to make a trip a little extra special. Would I tip for turndown service, the same as I would for housekeeping? Thanks. :D

Well, we were in a 2 bedroom so she had to make and then turn down 3 beds so I did leave $5 a day.

Trash & Towels? I thought that service was $10.00/day if you wanted it. I'm with DeeP. I'd love the daily maid serivce because I'm SPOV, but I'm also so excited about our new DVC membership that I've trusted everyone that I can get used to not having maid service. This turn-down service thing with daily towels would be great. I may even get hubby to agree to it, but for our first visit "home" I'm gonna see how it works with no daily towels etc. Hmmm. Learn something new everyday here on the DIS.

Well, Trash and Towel Service is $10 a day and that is something that is in the DVC guidebook as a DVC standard. The Turn-Down Service is not really a DVC thing, but they do it at BCV and I imagine the other deluxe resort DVC accomadations for $10 day. I think they charge the amount of $10 because they replinish the towels, but I am not sure if they did the trash because we always take care of that ourselves when we leave for the day. If you were at the regular BC they would do turn down upon request at no charge, but at the DVC Villas, they really couldn't do that since they would be giving you towels and they everyone would do that to get the towels changed free every day, so they just charge $10 per day.

Thanks for all the help. I will ask about it on our stay at the BWV. ;) We are alos SPOV, I just love that term.:smooth: :smooth: :smooth:

One of the very nicest things about owning DVC is not having to call CRO day after day chasing discounted rooms! Every time I spend time reading posts over on the Resorts Board, I can't help but feel relieved. I used to be one of those posters waiting for discounts. I used to feel frustrated with the various levels of CM expertise at CRO. By contrast, the MS CMs have been great! Since I always call 10 -11 months ahead of arrival, the reservation process is so much more simple and I have yet to be disappointed by lack of availability.

I also worried a bit at first about not having daily housekeeping. Now I really like the arrangement. It's just so much more private and home like. It only takes 2 or 3 minutes to make a bed and hang up a towel. And that's about all we do besides load up and run the dishwasher when we run out of clean coffee mugs. :teeth:
