Does OKW look old??

Can you tell its the oldest property? I am thinking about trying it, but not sure if the age of the property shows?? Would you choose OKW over other properties and why? Thanks for the info!!

We like OKW because it feels like Florida-laid back, lots of water, slower pace. It may have a touch of age but the ambience makes up for it.

Old, no. Disney upkeep is very good. And remember, OKW has had a number of things updated such as appliances, TV's, DVD's, etc. So in some cases these items in the OKW villas are actually newer than the ones in some of the other resorts because they still have their original appliances.

Also, the villas (1-b/r and larger) are far more spacious than the equivalent units in the other resorts.

One caveat though, if you're just staying in a Studio, I would recommend one of the other resorts because they have a small 'living' type area which has a sleeper couch, and only 1 bed. This gives you a place to sit down. OKW Studios all have two beds and feel more like a hotel room than a 'studio'. Just MHO.

OTOH, get a 1-B/R at OKW and you'll love it. Especially considering an OKW 1-b/r isn't that much more than some of the other resorts' studios. And you get real glasses and mugs!.....

How "old" is your house? If it's more than 15 years old, does it look old? Did you keep it up or let it go? No, OKW does not look "old". Disney (and us owners) have paid and done maintenance for the 15 years. If you happen to get a unit that is scheduled for rehab yet, you MIGHT feel like it's looking shabby, but that can happen at any resort if you are unlucky enough to get a unit at the end of its decor life.

The maintenance and upkeep, IMO, is the same as any other DVC resort, the only true difference is that resorts like OKW and VB which are older, were limited by existing construction and space when they added pool slides etc to keep up with the other DVC resorts that had their slides incorporated in their designs. For me OKW is more of a retreat, as I've stated many times, after a whole day of fighting the crowds and the heat I prefer to go home to a more laid back feel. I love BWV but it's too noisy and AKV is too many points.

The good thing about a studio at OKW that the other DVC's do not have is that there are two beds, and I don't really like sleeping in a sofa. The biggest complain about OKW is that it's so far removed from the action and that is true, it would be nice sometimes to just take the boat to Epcot or walk over but it's just as nice to take the boat to Downtown Disney. DVC has something to strike everybody's fancy, but it's hard to beat the point system and the GV's at OKW.

On a recent stay, only very minor issues with the unit, and nothing worth calling maintenance for. I only saw one thing (a gutter rusted clean through) that made me think the building I was in could stand a bit of renovation.

The age of the resort has one advantage: the landscaping has really grown in, and is very lush. Very different from SSR in that regard, which still looked a bit "moonscape-y" to me when I drove by it in February.

We were there in Oct and our 2BR unit was renovated and in great shape. And the space is unbelievable! And I agree, the grounds are very lovely. I don't think it is any different that any other resort, from my limited experience.

I love the laidback atmosphere and the casualness of it. It is the biggest & most spacious of the resorts. It feels like a relaxing place. like home.

OKW is younger than probably more than half the hotels on Disney property. It is the 'oldest' of the DVC resorts, that is true, but is younger than almost all the other Deluxe resorts. Does the Polynesian or the Grand Floridian look old? They are older than OKW.

Excellent observation which proves the point! All DVC's are under constant maintenance. At any given time, other than the very last built, they will have a certain amount of wear & tear. This has to be expected due to the volume of people that pass through the doors! The minute you drive your car off the lot, it isn't new anymore and it's the same here! The new car smell of referbishement in any resort lasts only till the 1st person walks throught the door and it's no different at OKW.

I was thinking the same thing, Laura. It has mature landscaping. Just makes you feel at home.
