I will be staying at the OKW (in a 1 bedroom) the week of the 4th of July.

Has anyone stayed there at that time of year before? Does OKW do anything special to celebrate the 4th?

I know you can BBQ somewhere in the OKW. I was thinking maybe of having a 4th of July BBQ. Does anyone think this would work.

Thanks!

Read my mind. We are there in a 1BDR over the 4th as well.
Was going to ask that same question. I always see pics in the albums in Community Hall of what looks like 4th celebrations:) but always forget to ask.:(

Last 4th of July we were there in a GV. They posted in the news/notes you get at check-in that there would be something that morning in Community Hall - I think Goofy was coming. Also, there was supposed to be a parade of bikes, etc., that morning, but if that happened we weren't yet awake, OR it could have been that it didn't come as far down as our villa - we were in building 23 (I think) and it was near the end of the road. (Long way from busstop and quiet pool).

In last year's Vacation Magic:

"Fourth of July Poolside Blow-out. The good old days of Fourth of July parades, games, and prizes return to Disney's Old Key West Resort this holiday. The event is kicked off with the famous "pargo parade," where Cast Members decorate their pargo carts as parade floats! Held poolside at the main pool, Disney's Old Key West Resort will treat Guests to contests, carnival games, and prizes. Be sure to check for a special character appearance in Community Hall! The fun begins around noon on July 4, and generally lasts until about 5:00 p.m. For more information, check with Hank's Rent 'N Return or the Front Desk upon check-in."

We were there last year. The "special character appearance" was Goofy and the lines were long to get in to see him. They were also either giving free popcorn or cotton candy or slush - LOL..great memory I have! The pool was pretty crowded - we found one seat for the 7 of us, just to hold our towels and bags. I think that a lot of people had the same idea that we had, to avoid the parks and just hang out at the resort for the day. We did end up eating at the Cape May Cafe for dinner and strolling into Epcot for the fireworks. It was crowded, but really not all that bad considering what I had expected.

Thanks so much. Gives me an idea of what to expect. I'm thinking of spending the day by the hotel then going to the Poly in the evening to eat dinner and then watch the Fireworks from the beach.

we will be there the week f the 4th as well and hope to hang out at the resort :D
