My NC seems to be stuck. This happened once before but after recharging it fully, it worked fine. This seems to be related to the new software and in particular Angry Birds because both times it has frozen during Angry Birds. Currently, the screen is black and I can hear the birds chirping because AB is trying to load I guess but the touchscreen is completely unresponsive so I cannot power down or go to the main page, library, etc.

Any ideas? The closest B&N isn't, lol. I'm 40 miles from the nearest.

Hold the power button down and slowly count to at least 10. Hopefully the sound will have stopped by then. Then hold the power button down for about 4 seconds - you should see a slight flash on the screen. Release the power button and wait for it to reboot.

Also, if you have a memory card in it, try taking it out and putting it back. For some reason the software update seems to not play well with the presence of an SD card.

Mine does it too. It's from Angry Birds. I like Angry Birds so I just live with it and power the unit off when it gets frozen. I've heard worse things about the Uno app so even though I was tempted to get it for my kids to use....I steer clear of it.

I'm glad to know that I'm not the only one who's had this problem. I was beginning to think that maybe I'd gotten a bad Nook since I'm also having problems with my AC cord. If I put it on charge while I'm using it, the slightest movement of the cord will cause it to stop charging...almost like a bad connection. My DH called B&N yesterday, and they told me to bring it in. Has anyone else had this happen?

it's happened to us quite a few times, but only since they put through the upgrade. ( apparently there's still some kinks they need to work out) My DH will be in the middle of reading a book....the screen goes blank. This happens alot with his. Me, I was watching Pirates the other day and it went blank. (now THAT was a bummer !!) But the whole thing just locked up and I had to wait a while then shut it down and restart it. It's been fine since.

but no, you're not alone ! ;)

FWIW, if you want to revert your Nook back to the original configuration before the upgrade, just reboot it 8x in a row--basically power it on, wait for the Nook logo and then power it off. Do it 8 times, it reverts to factory settings.

When I got my Nook, I played with it out of the box and got it set up and it worked great. I then applied the update. It worked fine, but it kept crashing my WiFi router. I don't know how or why, but it did.

I was rooting it, anyway, so I didn't care. I rooted it, and all is well with the Nook Color.

ceecee ..... if you're out on Barnesandnoble.com under NookColor you'll see how to upgrade the software. with the exception of minor glitches here and there, it's been great. You can now download apps and it's got flash player. It's very easy to do the software upgrade...they walk you through all the instructions. :thumbsup2

THANKS! I haven't used it much, I'm not tech savvy!

I had a "bad" NookColor when I first got mine and returned for a new one. I haven't had any problems with the power cord. I knew mine was a bad batch (known problem) when I googled my problem and found a lot of other people with the problem that had to return/exchange theirs too.

http://www.mobileread.com/forums/showthread.php?p=1515107 I found this. You can see if BN will give you a replacement cord.

I was debating rooting mine. Are you happy with it? It's basically a tablet after rooting right?
